Question

What should I do if only one of my Toast POS devices is disconnected from the cloud or is not showing an IP address?

Answer

In cases where a single countertop terminal is not showing an internet connection or an IP address:

  1. At your terminal, review the Device Status from your Toast app. Select the overflow menu (three dots in the upper-right corner of any screen) in the Toast app and select Device status. If this screen indicates you're offline, continue with these steps.
  2. Verify the Wi-Fi is off by locating the Network & Internet settings on your device. This typically involves swiping down from the top of the screen and selecting the gear icon (Settings menu).
  3. Trace the cables away from the terminal. If your Ethernet cable connects to a printer or a switch, trace that printer/switch's Ethernet cable back to the router. Ethernet cables should be securely plugged in all the way back. Check if the Internet-In port indicator light on the printer or connected device is illuminated. A lack of light could indicate a hardware or cable issue.
  4. Printers and switches should be powered on.
  5. While tracing, check your Ethernet cable(s) and look for damage or breaks that suggest the cable should be replaced. If the issue persists, try using a different Ethernet cable to rule out physical cable malfunctions.
  6. Unplug the Ethernet cable from your Toast device. Wait at least 2 minutes and plug it back in.
  7. If you get to the router and no issues have been discovered, double-check that you didn't miss anything. If the issue persists, do not unplug the power to your terminal, especially if orders have been placed or payments have been taken while the terminal was offline. Contact Customer Care. You do not need to change the terminal from DHCP to a static IP configuration if the terminal experiences connectivity issues on Ethernet but works on Wi-Fi. DHCP enables automatic IP address assignment from the network router. Ensure that your Ethernet cable connections have been double-checked, and confirm if the associated device (e.g., printer) recognizes the Ethernet connection when the cable is plugged in.
