Can I cancel a refund?

• Can I reverse or stop a refund that was done by mistake?
• Can I undo an accidental refund?
• If I accidentally refunded the entire check instead of just the tip amount, can I get a credit for the difference?

No, refunds cannot be canceled or reversed. Once the money has been refunded to your guest, the guest's card will need to be swiped again or the tender reentered at the terminal to remake the purchase desired. If the guest is unavailable to complete this, and you need to cancel the refund, please contact Customer Care to perform a rekey.

There is no deadline for requesting a rekey. Contact Customer Care no matter how long ago the refund was issued, as long as you can still locate the original payment using Find Checks in Toast Web. A rekey takes three to five business days to process.

Note: A rekey is a new charge to the guest's card, so it is not guaranteed to succeed. The card can be declined for reasons such as an expired card or an insufficient balance. Chargeback risk also increases the longer it has been since the original transaction, so request a rekey as soon as you notice the error.
