Question

  • How do I enable strict mode on my POS?
  • What is strict mode?

Answer

For restaurants that take catering orders, Toast offers Strict Mode as a preventative measure to keep ASAP orders and future orders from having their date changed after being fired/sent to the kitchen. This allows for sales and accounting reports to reflect the correct sale amount for the appropriate date.

When Strict Mode is enabled, the scheduled date of an order that contains fired items cannot be changed. Orders cannot be retroactively placed into strict mode. To ensure that an existing order's scheduled date does not change, we suggest that you void the existing order, enable Strict Mode, then recreate the order for the appropriate date.

To enable Strict Mode:

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Front of house > Order screen setup > UI options and scroll down to the Order management section.
  2. Toggle Strict mode to the On position.
  3. Save and publish your changes.

Strict Mode applies to scheduled orders placed in Next Day Mode and to any order that has fired items on it (whether ASAP or scheduled). In an attempt to change the scheduled date while in Strict Mode, an error message pop-up will appear: Schedule cannot be changed on this ASAP order because an item was already fired.
