Online, delivery, and third-party orders are not appearing on your Kitchen Display System on their own. Use these steps to find where the order is stopping.
Applies to: Toast Online Ordering, Toast Delivery Services, DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, Kitchen Display System (KDS)
Permissions needed:
What you'll accomplish: Confirm that online and third-party orders appear automatically on the KDS you expect, without anyone firing them by hand.
| Symptom | Most Common Cause | Quick Fix |
| Online orders arrive but staff must fire each one | The auto-fire device is offline or is not the recommended device | Confirm your auto-fire device in Toast Web and bring it back online |
| Orders fire but never reach one specific KDS | That KDS is not set to display the order's dining option | On the KDS, select the missing dining options under Ticket Display Options |
| Only DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Grubhub orders are missing | The third-party dining option is not selected on the KDS | Select the partner dining option, such as DoorDash Takeout, on the KDS |
| Some items on the order appear and others do not | Those items route to a prep station this KDS does not display | Check the prep station assigned to the affected menu items |
Start here every time. If the order never arrived at Toast, no KDS setting will fix it.
If the order is not in Orders Hub, the problem is upstream of your KDS. For third-party orders, confirm the integration is active and the restaurant is not paused on that partner's platform. Contact Toast Customer Care if the order still does not arrive.
Note: Do not change KDS settings while an order is missing from Orders Hub. The KDS can only display orders Toast has received.
Your restaurant's auto-fire device is what sends approved online orders to the kitchen. If that device is offline, orders wait for someone to fire them.
Note: A Toast Go® 2 or Toast Go® 3 cannot be used as an auto-fire device. If one of these is selected, choose a stationary terminal instead.
Expected outcome: New online orders fire to the kitchen without anyone touching the POS.
Each KDS displays only the dining options you select on that device.
Expected outcome: Orders using those dining options appear on this KDS automatically.
If the whole order still does not appear, or if some items appear and others do not, check prep station routing:
Third-party dining options are separate from your own online ordering dining options, and they are easy to miss when setting up a KDS.
Note: Adding a new delivery partner usually adds new dining options. Review your KDS ticket display options whenever you add a partner.
Send a new online or third-party test order and confirm all of the following:
If any of these still fail, contact Toast Customer Care.
Online orders need to be fired manually when your auto-fire device is offline, is not set, or is set to a device that cannot auto-fire. Confirm the auto-fire device in Takeout & Delivery > Online Ordering > Approval > Auto Fire device and make sure it is online and hardwired.

You cannot use a Toast Go® 2 or Toast Go® 3 as your auto-fire device. Select a stationary terminal that stays powered on and connected during service.
DoorDash orders appear on the POS but not the KDS when the partner's dining option is not selected in that KDS device's ticket display options. Third-party dining options are listed separately and often include the partner name, such as DoorDash Takeout.
When part of an order is missing from a screen, those items are routed to a prep station that this KDS does not display. Check the prep station assigned to the affected menu items in Menus > Menu management > Advanced properties, then confirm that prep station is assigned to the KDS.
