Question
What do I do if I see the "Card is not valid at this restaurant" message when I enter a gift card number?
Answer
Check to see if you are using a gift card or voucher. Voucher numbers always start with GIFT_SAVE. Vouchers will be entered into the promo code field at checkout for redemption, and do not operate as gift cards. If you've confirmed it is a gift card, double-check that you're entering the correct card number as it appears on the gift card.
Verify the card number was imported for use in Toast Web.
First, check the Gift Card Balances report to search for active gift cards.
Navigate in Toast Web to Reports > Payments > Gift card balances.
If your restaurant is part of a multilocation group, be sure to select all locations on the report filter and select Update to reload the report, as it is possible that the card was imported at a different location in the restaurant group if your gift cards are shared between locations.
Ensure the Imported Number column is displayed on the Gift Card Balances report. Select the Show/hide columns button and select the checkbox next to Imported Number. It will immediately show up on the table. In some cases, imported numbers may not be present.
Use the Search field above the Show / hide columns button on the right to look up the number listed on the gift card that is prompting the error.
If the gift card was imported as inactive (unsold), check the Inactive Gift Cards report.
From any report in Toast Web, navigate to Payments > Inactive gift cards using the navigation on the left-hand side of the page.
