MCA Repayment Withholdings Overview — a customer-facing Overview article explaining that "MCA Repayment" is Toast's label for money withheld from a card payout, and that despite standing for Merchant Cash Advance, it does not mean the restaurant has a loan.
“MCA Repayment” is the label Toast uses on your payout for amounts withheld from your card sales to cover other Toast products and services. Despite its title, the label does not refer to any merchant cash advance (MCA)--it’s just a naming convention that Toast uses as a blanket term for many different types of payments that you may make to Toast.
You may see the MCA Repayment label on your bank deposit description, in the Payout Overview report, and on sales journals and accounting syncs if you use xtraCHEF. Seeing MCA Repayment does not necessarily mean that you have a Toast Capital Loan or any other type of financial product through Toast.
The amount is a withholding, not a fee. It reduces the amount of the transaction settlements that are deposited to your bank account, and the individual items behind it are itemized in Toast Web.
MCA Repayment can include any of the following:
Your MCA Repayment total reflects only the products and services your restaurant actually uses. The amount may come from any combination of items on this list that you use, including a Toast Capital Loan if you have one.
Applies to: Toast Web
Permissions needed:
No POS hardware is required. MCA Repayment is reported in Toast Web.
Any restaurant that uses a Toast product with amounts withheld from card payouts can see MCA Repayment. That includes restaurants with no Toast Capital Loan and no equipment lease.
You do not need to enable anything to see MCA Repayment. It appears automatically when an amount is withheld from a payout.
The amount that you owe toward the products that are applicable to you is withheld from the amount from your card sales before the payout is deposited into your bank account and then applied to the appropriate balances. Toast then reports the total as MCA Repayment.
Card sales typically settle one to two business days after the sales date, so a payout you review today covers sales from an earlier date. For the full timing rules, see Deposit Schedules Overview.
The itemized breakdown lives in the Payout Overview report, at Toast Web > Reports > Payments > Payout Overview. Select a payout to open its breakdown, then expand the withholdings section.
The withholdings section lists each item and its amount, including Toast Capital Loans, Instant Deposit, Toast Delivery Services delivery fees and driver tips, and Toast Delivery Services service fees.
Note: Because card sales generally settle one to two business days after the sales date, review a payout from at least two days earlier to see a complete breakdown.
For a full walkthrough of the payout breakdown, see Reconciliation Report and Payout Details Overview.
MCA Repayment appears as its own line item on Toast sales journals and in accounting syncs, so you can map it to a General Ledger (GL) code in your accounting system. In xtraCHEF it is a mappable sales category.
Note: If the MCA Repayment amount in your accounting system does not match Toast’s, compare it against the Payout Overview report rather than a bank statement description. Payout Overview is the accurate source for what was withheld and deposited.
*Toast Capital Loans are issued by WebBank.
