Toast does not allow a cash drawer to be removed or deleted for transaction security. If a drawer has been opened that should not be opened, there are three things to consider:
If transactions were made on an open drawer by accident, it is best practice to treat it as an additional drawer. Errors commonly occur when attempting to transfer these transactions to the original drawer; therefore, it is recommended to close them as a separate drawer.
Toast will always open a drawer in the place of one that has just been closed. This feature is built-in so a cash drawer is always accessible for a transaction, and it helps prevent downtime during cash drawer shift changes.
You can still close the day if the automatically-opened drawer is left alone without any transactions or cash entries. Run the End of Day report and close the restaurant as usual, and Toast will automatically close the cash drawer at the Business Day Cutoff Time.
