About Recommended Settings

Recommended Settings is a step in device setup that automatically configures your Toast device using Toast's suggested settings for your business type. It's designed for anyone setting up a device for the first time who isn't sure which options to choose.

 

Recommended Settings is available for devices in POS/Quick Order/Bar, Kitchen, and Kiosk modes. If you don't change anything during setup, your device will use the recommended settings automatically.

Before You Begin

Applies to: Toast Flex terminal, Elo terminal, Toast Go® handhelds (POS/Quick Order/Bar, Kitchen, and Kiosk modes)

 

Permissions needed:

  • Device administrator access on the Toast device

 

What you'll accomplish: Complete device setup faster by applying Toast's recommended settings, with the option to review and customize any setting first.

Step 1: Start Device Setup

  1. Turn on your Toast device for the first time, or restart device setup after a factory reset.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts through the Welcome, Network Check, and Peripheral Detection steps.

Step 2: Review Recommended Settings

  1. When you reach the Recommended Settings step, review the list of settings Toast suggests for your device's mode.
  2. Each setting shows the recommended option already selected.

 

Note: Recommended Settings only applies to POS/Quick Order/Bar, Kitchen, and Kiosk modes. Other device modes continue to use the standard manual setup flow.

Step 3: Apply or Customize Your Settings

  1. To accept every recommended setting, select Continue without making changes.
  2. To change a setting, select it and choose a different option before continuing. Every setting in Manual Setup shows a preselected option, so you only need to change the ones you want to customize.

 

Expected outcome: Your device applies either the recommended configuration or your customized selections, and setup continues to the next step.

Step 4: Finish Setup

  1. Complete the remaining device setup steps (payment processing, order screen, and any peripheral configuration).
  2. Your settings, whether recommended or customized, take effect immediately once setup finishes.

 

You can review or change any setting later by returning to Device Setup on your Toast device.
