Set Up Tip Options

This functionality is available in all markets/regions (including the UK, Ireland, and Canada).

 

To set up tip options, follow the steps below:
 

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Front of house > Order screen setup > UI options.
  2. Scroll down to the Tipping section, and find the Customize Tip Percentages setting.
  3. Here, you can select whether you prefer tip options to appear for your guests as percentages, currency amounts, or both. You'll also be able to customize the suggested tip percentages that your guests will see before submitting their order online (assuming that tipping is enabled). The tip settings you select will be the same anywhere that tipping is enabled, including digital receipts, physical receipts, and Toast Online Ordering.
  4. Save and publish your changes.

 

Note:

  • At this time, tip percentage suggestions cannot be removed from the signature screen without fully disabling tipping. Only the percentage itself can be modified.
  • If you wish to print the information provided on this page for offline review, select File > Print on your web browser toolbar.

Managing Tip Settings per device for Canada, Ireland and the U.K.

This functionality is not applicable to customers in the US.

 

For customers that require per-card reader tip configurations or a combination of different tip types, you can disable the Use Toast Tips option on your S1 Handheld POS or Toast Flex in Device Setup. After doing so, please contact Toast support for help with specific payment processor configurations to meet your unique tipping needs.

Troubleshoot Tip Options for Online Ordering

This functionality is not applicable to customers in Canada, Ireland and the UK.

 

If you notice that there are four suggested tip amounts on your online ordering page, but only see three options that can be edited on the UI options page, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Payments > Payment methods > Payment options.
  2. Scroll to the Digital Receipt Options section and for the Tip & Signature Flow setting, select Use the legacy Tip screen along with the legacy signature screen.
  3. Save your changes.
  4. Return to the Tipping section on the UI options page (Front of house > Order screen setup > UI options). If you'd like to have only three suggested tip amounts for online orders, change the fourth option to a 0 value. The 0 value will not be reflected on the online ordering page.
  5. Now navigate back to the Tip & Signature Flow setting on the Payment Options page (Payments > Payment methods > Payment options) and revert the Tip & Signature Flow setting back to the Use the combined Tip & Signature Screen option.
  6. Save and publish your changes.

Troubleshoot Tip Amount Options on New Device

If you have a new device that isn't showing tipping options, you may have mirrored this device with another device that was configured not to show tipping. You can turn off forced mirroring on the original device by following these steps:
 

  1. Navigate to Setup.
  2. Select Device Setup.
  3. Toggle Force mirroring on device on the second screen to off.

Set Up Number of Tip Amount Options Shown to Guests

This functionality is not applicable to customers in Canada, Ireland and the UK.

 

Please follow the steps if you want to configure the number of tip amount options shown to guests when they're paying for their order, and/or if tip options are not available with Online Ordering.

 

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Payments > Payment methods > Payment options.
  2. Scroll down to the Digital Receipt Options section. Under Tip & Signature Flow, select Use the legacy Tip screen along with the legacy signature screen.
  3. Next, save and publish your changes.
  4. Return to the Tipping section on the UI options page (Front of house > Order screen setup > UI options). Scroll down to the Customize Tip Amount/Percentages setting and adjust the tip values as needed. If you'd like to have four (4) suggested tip amounts to be displayed, ensure that the value for each field is not set to 0.
  5. Save and publish your changes.
