Toast Payroll: Paycheck Package Delivery Delays

Last updated: Apr 8, 2026, 2:17 PM

Question

If I'm signed up for Toast-printed paychecks, but I receive notice that there's been a delivery delay, what can I do to pay my employees on time?

Answer

If a customer has opted-in to the Toast-printed paycheck delivery option, Toast will mail any paper paychecks via a third-party delivery company such as UPS or FedEx. These companies may be subject to delivery delays due to holidays, bad weather, increased volume, or other factors outside of Toast's control. You can track your paycheck package by visiting Payroll > Past Payrolls > View and selecting the tracking number. If your paycheck package will be delivered after the check date, here's what you can do to pay your employees on time and cancel the delayed paychecks:

To pay employees today, you can write manual checks in-house or use a cash transfer app for the net pay amount:

  • Locate net pay amounts by navigating to Payroll > Past Payrolls > View.
  • Scroll down and open the Employee detail report.
  • Use the Net Pay Amount on the right side of the report as the dollar value each employee should be paid.
  • You can deliver this amount as a paper check from your own checkbook or by using a cash transfer app such as Venmo.

Once you receive the delayed checks, follow the steps below that are applicable to your business:

  • If you pay employees out of your own account, contact your bank directly to request a stop payment on the late checks, then shred them.
  • If you pay employees out of Toast's account, write VOID on the delayed checks. Take a photo of them and request a stop payment by sending the photo to us via the blue chat button in the lower-right corner of any Toast Payroll page.
    • Writing out of Toast's account is no longer a feature customers can request as of Q1 2022.
