Can I deposit checks into my Toast Checking account?

No. Toast Checking does not support check deposits. You can only write checks to pay vendors or individuals.

How do I write a check from my Toast Checking account or Jar?

1. From a check production company, purchase blank check stock that’s been MICR encoded with the routing and transit number and account number of the Toast Checking Account or Toast Checking account Jar from which you wish to withdraw funds. A check production company can be easily found online for a reasonable price searching “buy business checks”. Note: Toast and Thread Bank are not responsible for issues caused by third-party check printing vendors, including improperly formatted check stock or MICR encoding errors.

When ordering checks, use:

        • Bank name: Thread Bank

        • Routing number and account number: Use the routing and account number for the specific Toast Checking account (or Jar) you want to pay the check out of.

You might also consider utilizing check-writing software solutions to produce professionally formatted and visually consistent checks. Once you have the blank check stock, you can write the checks yourself on the spot. (Note: Toast Payroll checks are also supported. Please see that section for details.)

2. You only need to register checks in certain situations:

      • Customer-written checks under $1,000: No registration is required. These checks automatically post upon presentation.

      • Customer-written checks of $1,000 or more: Registration is required to confirm the check is authorized, or it may be returned unpaid.

      • Toast Payroll checks: These are typically validated automatically. In some cases, you may be asked to review/confirm a check.

See “How do I register a check?” for step-by-step instructions.

Can I use this checking account for payroll?

Yes. Toast Checking and Toast Checking Jars are an eligible funding source for Toast Payroll.

If you are using Toast Payroll, you typically do not need to register checks issued directly through Toast Payroll. If a check requires your review or confirmation, we'll notify you.

If you are using another payroll service or producing payroll checks yourself, the same customer check-writing rules apply (registration is required for checks of $1,000 or more).

What if I need to void a check that I've registered?

To void a registered check that has not been deposited yet by the recipient, navigate to the check in your register and select the void option. Please call Toast Checking Customer Service at (617) 468-5542 for any questions. Customer service hours are Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. ET.

Are there limits on how many or how much I can write in checks?

Yes. Toast applies check-writing limits to help manage fraud and account risk. Limits apply per Toast Checking account and per Jar:

      • Daily limit: $25,000

      • Monthly limit: $100,000

      • Checks of $25,000 or more require manual review before payment (typically completed the same business day).

Any Toast Payroll Checks drawn off of the same Toast Checking Account or Toast Checking Account Jars will be added to this cumulative limit. If you exceed the limit, the check will be rejected.

What if I need to dispute a check that has been cashed?

Checks can be disputed after they are processed.

To request a check dispute, you will need to complete a dispute form, have the form notarized, and returned to Toast via email toastchecking@toasttab.com

Please call Toast Checking Customer Service at (617) 468-5542 for any questions. Customer service hours are Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. ET.

How will I know if a check is rejected?

You’ll be notified via your email if a check requires your attention or has been returned unpaid.

For example, you may receive an email if:

      • A check of $1,000 or more is deposited but not registered

      • There is a mismatch between what was registered and what was presented for payment
