Change an Earning/Deduction Code’s Tax Rate in Toast Payroll

If you'd like to change the rate of an earning/deduction code, you should instead create a new one in order to avoid negative taxation implications. To create a new deduction code, fill out and send it via the blue chat dot in the lower-right corner of any Toast Payroll page.

You can check the details of an earning or deduction code by downloading the appropriate report in Toast Payroll.

1. Navigate to Reports > Standard and search for either the Earning Code Setup report or the Deduction Code Setup report.
2. Select the eyeball icon and then select Queue to download the report.
3. The columns labeled preTax, fit, fica (Social Security), fhi (Medicare), futa, suta, sit, sdis, sui, and local can help you determine which taxes this earning/deduction is subject to.
