About the Toast and DIGI Scale Integration

The Toast and DIGI scale integration connects your DIGI weighing scale to Toast so that weighed items you label at the scale scan correctly at your Toast terminals. Your item names, prices, and barcode details are shared between Toast and DIGI, so you do not have to enter the same information twice.

The integration works by matching a small set of fields on each item in Toast to the same item on your DIGI scale. Your Onboarding Consultant sets those fields up with you during onboarding, and you maintain them yourself afterward.

Step 1: Share Your Item List With Your Onboarding Consultant

  1. Send your full item list to your Onboarding Consultant, including item names, categories, and prices.
  2. Identify which of those items will be weighed and labeled at the DIGI scale.
  3. Confirm the category group and category numbers your Onboarding Consultant assigns to your items, and keep them somewhere you can refer back to.

Expected outcome: your scale items are set up in Toast and your item information has been sent to DIGI so your scale can be programmed.

Step 2: Provide an Internet Connection for the Scale

  1. Provide a hardwired Ethernet connection for the scale, or Wi-Fi if you purchased the DIGI wireless adapter.
  2. Confirm the connection is separate from your Toast network.
  3. Have at least one Toast terminal powered on with a scanner connected, so scanning can be tested as soon as the scale is ready.

Your DIGI scale cannot be connected to your Toast network in any way. Do not connect it to your Toast Pronto router or to Toast Wi-Fi through a Pronto access point. The scale needs a separate internet connection.

Expected outcome: an internet connection is available for the scale, and a terminal and scanner are ready for testing.

Step 3: Schedule Your DIGI Installation

  1. Agree an installation date with DIGI when they contact you.
  2. Confirm a DIGI technician will place the scale in service. Weights and measures regulations require an authorized DIGI agent to do this.

Note: Your DIGI installation is independent of your Toast installation. It can happen before, during, or after your Toast installation.

Expected outcome: your DIGI installation is scheduled and your scale is placed in service by a DIGI technician.

Step 4: Test Scanning After the Scale Is Installed

  1. Weigh an item on your DIGI scale and print its label.
  2. Scan the label at a Toast terminal.
  3. Confirm that the correct item name and price appear on the check.

Expected outcome: the item and its price appear on the check when you scan the label.

Note:

  • Your DIGI scale refreshes its item information from Toast automatically, typically every 20 to 30 minutes. If an item you just added has not reached the scale, wait for the next refresh before testing again.
  • To add or change items once your scale is live, see Add and Edit Items for Your DIGI Scale. For anything that is not working as expected, and for which team to contact, see Get Help With Your DIGI Scale.
