Adjust your Sling preferences—time, name format, world clock, shift appearance—and configure Dashboard, message, and shift-alarm notifications.
Under your Preferences, you'll be able to adjust the time format, name format, world clock option, shift appearance, sound effects for messages, and the ability for your teammates to see when you are typing a message.
If you prefer a certain time format over the other, you can easily update your account from your preferences page in Dashboard > Settings > Preferences. Choose your preferred format from the list, then select Save.
Note: This is a user preference and will only affect your view.
By default, employees are listed alphabetically according to their first name (First, Last). If you would like to arrange employees according to their last names, you can easily update this.
You'll find it under your preferences page in Dashboard > Settings > Preferences. Choose your preferred format, then save, and all parts of Sling will be updated to reflect your choice.
Note: This is a user preference and will only affect your view.
The world clock setting lets organizations with locations and/or employees across multiple time zones view the schedule in a way that makes sense for them.
Note: The world clock setting can only be enabled on the web.
For Admins and Managers
For admins and managers, it can help you schedule shifts more accurately, as well, since the setting you choose will determine how you enter the times for a shift.
To enable or disable the world clock:
When adjusting your view, there are a few scenarios to consider:
In either case, employees in a time zone that is different than the location's time zone will still need to turn the world clock on in their own accounts so they can see shifts according to their local time and are not attempting to start their shift early or late.
Note: It's recommended to disable the world clock setting when copying shifts or copying the schedule.
For Employees
Sling has a setting that allows employees to choose whether they view shifts according to their own time zone or according to the location assigned to the shift.
To enable or disable the world clock, navigate to Dashboard > Settings > Preferences, enable or disable the setting, then select Save.
Enabling the World Clock will display all shifts according to your local time. This will allow you to understand when others are working, compared to your shifts as well as see who else is working at the same time, no matter where they are in the world. It will also help you understand the timing of your shifts if you work remotely and are assigned to a location in a different time zone than your own.
Our paid subscriptions allow you to customize the appearance of shifts on the web calendar. These settings are unique to each user, so an admin's settings will not affect the appearance of employees' views.
Note: Shift appearance will not be affected in the app.
To adjust the shift appearance on the calendar, navigate to Dashboard > Settings > Preferences and find the section labeled, Shift appearance on calendar.
The labels on the left are the bits of info you can add, remove, or rearrange by dragging and dropping. For example, if you want to remove the shift duration, simply drag it and drop it to the left side. The purple area shows you how the info will look within a shift on your calendar.
There are different options for the different views, and you can customize each one separately by highlighting the different view options (day, week, and month).
If you decide you want to restore the view to the defaults, just select the round arrow icon.
The Sound effects setting allows you to enable or disable sound effects for sent and received messages.
The Show others when I am typing settings lets you allow others to see when you are typing a message.
In Dashboard > Settings > Notifications, you'll be able to activate one or more shift alarms, enable or disable Dashboard notifications, Message notifications, and Newsfeed notifications. You also have the ability to enable notifications for when you forget to clock in or out, depending on the Sling subscription your company is using.
When you join Sling, it's important to adjust the default emails and alerts you receive regarding activity in your company's Sling account. Each person who has joined a company's Sling account has the ability to adjust their own notification settings. It is not possible for an admin or manager to adjust an employee's notifications. The type of subscription that a company selects determines the options available for these settings.
Note: When you adjust your notification settings, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect.
From the web
Go to Dashboard > Settings > Notifications. Here, you can select the options you would like for receiving Shift Alarms and notifications for the Dashboard, Messages, Newsfeed, and the Time Clock (if your org uses the feature).
Admins and managers will also see options for Daily Report emails and Timeclock notifications on this page.
Admins also have the option to enable or disable employee activity notifications. When this setting is enabled, admins will receive these notifications for all locations on the account.
To be sure you get alerts for new schedules and available shifts, enable some form of Dashboard notification.
Note: If you are joined to more than one Sling account, you can only receive mobile alerts for the account that you are logged into currently. In this case, we recommend enabling email notifications, which will be generated no matter which account is active.
Sling's message notification settings allow you to choose to receive a notification whenever you receive a new message, or to only receive a notification when you are mentioned or get a private message.
You can select how often you would like to receive email notifications from the options of Immediately, Every 15 minutes, or Once an hour.
From the mobile app
Go to More, then select Settings.
This will bring up a list of options for your notifications. You can adjust the toggles to turn an option on or off. It's recommended to enable some form of Dashboard notifications so you will be alerted of new shifts and available shifts.
Note: The notifications that you receive are based on the locations and positions saved to your profile. If you are an employee and you're receiving notifications for locations/positions that you do not want, you will need to contact your manager or an admin for your company's Sling account and ask them to remove those details from your profile.
