Use the Find My Rates Tool

The Find My Rates tool leverages integration with Avalara Automated Tax Compliance Software to inform you of your restaurant's standard state and local sales and meals tax rates based on your configured restaurant address. The tool provides a 1-click workflow for creating tax rates and setting them as the default for all menus, menu groups, and menu items.

Tax rates are provided for convenience only, are subject to change, and Toast is not responsible for notifying or updating new tax rates. If you are in Ohio, California, or New York, you may need additional tax rates for takeout and delivery orders. We recommend checking your local regulations to learn about the requirements applicable to your business. |
Set Up the Find My Rates Tool
Follow the steps below to set up the Find My Rates tool in Toast Web:
- In , navigate to Menus > Settings > Manage tax rates. Please note, this tool is only available during the onboarding process and is not available once a location goes live. See for more information.
- Select Help me find my rates. The Help me find my rates button will only appear if there are no rates configured.
If there are tax rates already configured and you'd like to check your rates with this tool, select the Archive button in the 3-dot dropdown for any configured rates and then select Save. As a reminder, this action can only be completed during onboarding, prior to going live. The Help me find my rates button will only be visible if there are no tax rates configured.
- The next screen will show you applicable tax rates based on your location's address. You'll have the option to apply the list of tax rates or set up your taxes manually. If your location address is incorrect, contact Customer Care to update. Select Apply tax rates to complete the process.
Find My Rates Availability
The Find My Rates tool is available to Toast locations that meet the following criteria:
- Not leveraging Toast's multi-location management feature
- Must be in test mode
- Does not have any tax rates configured - if your location meets the first two criteria, the already configured rates can be archived to make the tool available.
- Note: If you meet the criteria above but the Find My Rates tool doesn't appear after you archive your tax rates, you can try to unarchive and then re-archive your tax rates to refresh the data and make the tool appear again.

Find My Rates Limitations
There are several limitations to be aware of when utilizing the Find My Rates Tool:
- The tool doesn't inform users of takeout and delivery rates. Suppose takeout- and delivery-specific rates are required for your location. In that case, you can either modify the configuration of the rates created by this tool or bypass the tool by selecting "I'll set up my taxes manually."
- The tool doesn't inform users of tax rates specific to alcoholic beverages.
- Tax rates created using this tool will not be mapped to menus, menu groups, or menu items not listed to inherit tax rates. (Note: By default, menus, menu groups, and menu items are set to inherit tax rates that are created using this tool.)
