These terms describe how a fuel retail site is branded and who owns and operates it.

| Branded / Major Oil Company (MOC) | Gas stations affiliated with major oil brands, such as Shell, Exxon, or BP. These sites must follow strict brand standards, have guaranteed fuel supply contracts, and are required to use POS systems and payment processors approved by the major oil company. |
| Unbranded | Independent operators who build their own brand identity, control their own pricing strategy, and choose their own POS providers without major brand compliance costs. Toast Fuel is designed primarily for unbranded sites. |
| COCO (Company-Owned, Company-Operated) | Sites where the oil company owns the property and directly manages both the gas station and the convenience store. |
| CODO (Company-Owned, Dealer-Operated) | Sites where the oil company owns the land or building, but a third-party independent dealer leases the location and runs the daily business. |
| DODO (Dealer-Owned, Dealer-Operated) | Sites where an independent dealer owns the land and operates the business entirely. |

| Dispenser Payment Terminal (DPT) / Outdoor Payment Terminal (OPT) | The card reader located directly on the fuel dispenser. Common platforms include Gilbarco's FlexPay and Wayne's iXPay. |
| CRIND | Stands for "Card Reader in Dispenser." Refers to the payment functionality that allows customers to pay directly at the pump. |
| Forecourt Controller (FCC) | The central hardware and software hub that bridges communication between the in-store POS system and outdoor devices, such as fuel dispensers, electronic price signs, and car washes. Toast uses the Allied NeXGen controller. |

| Fleet Cards | Commercial payment cards used by trucking companies and delivery businesses, such as WEX, Voyager, or Visa 2.0, that prompt for specific data like a driver ID or vehicle odometer reading. |
