For printer setup instructions, search Support Center for the name of your printer or check out our Hardware Hub.
When you turn on your Toast hardware for the first time when installing, you'll be guided through the printer install and setup. At any point, you can access the printer setup page to add or replace a printer, check your printer status, or troubleshoot your printer.
Select the back arrow in the top left corner of the screen to get to the main menu of the Toast app on your device, then navigate to Setup > Printer Setup.
Here, you'll see the overall health of your existing printers. In the example below, there is one printer connected and two printers that are showing offline.
Note: Any printer that is configured with prep stations displays those prep stations as part of this high-level view.
The Printer Setup page includes a Receipt printer section that shows which printer is currently set as your receipt printer.
If no receipt printer is set, this section prompts you to add one. Follow the steps in the Add or Replace a Printer section to set up a receipt printer.
When you open the Printer Setup page, it refreshes automatically if a refresh is needed. After that, you can select Refresh to manually refresh the page and see the most current status of your printers.
Select a specific printer to view all of the printer's settings, print a test ticket, or print a test receipt.
Needing to manually print a test slip? Check out this Support Center article: Print a Test Slip for additional instructions.
If you’ve already plugged in a new printer or connected one to your location’s local network, your printer will automatically appear in the New printers ready to set up dropdown at the top of your Printer setup > My Printers page. Select Setup now to begin setting this printer up and follow the prompts in this experience accordingly.
Otherwise, follow these steps to manually set up a printer:

Any printers shown on your Printer Setup page that have a standard IP address, as shown below, are configured as static.
If you then select that printer, you'll see under the Printer tab that there's an IP Address listed.
If you do not see a standard IP address associated with the printer in question, and its IP Address is “Not Required” on the Printer tab after selecting the printer, this means the printer uses a default configuration (a.k.a. "DHCP").
With the default configuration, the system uses the serial number listed here to recognize a printer. If it is not listed here and you need it, you can view the serial number on the bottom of the printer.
Your device detects a printer by scanning the network it is connected to. If the printer is not on the same network, your device will not detect or display it on the setup screen. You'll want to make sure to set up your network and router prior to setting up your printers. To learn more, check out the following Support Center articles:
Also, if the printer is on a different subnet from the local network, the printers won't appear when the network is scanned. To check this, print a test page and compare it to network info in the Device Status page on your POS by selecting the three dots on the top right corner of your screen.
Make sure that you have the 7.1 - 7.3 Device Setup and 6.10 Printer and Cash Drawer Setup permissions to be able to set up devices. This can be changed under each job role or user. As a reminder, you cannot assign permissions or assign/edit the job of an employee unless you have access to all of their permission yourself (even if you are an administrator). To learn more check out the Permissions Reference Guide and Assign User Access Permissions.
