Can a cash drawer be adjusted after it has been closed?

Answer

In order to access, view, and update the Cash Drawer History report, including other cash-related reports, a user must have these access permissions:

  • 1.6 Apply Cash Payments
  • 1.7 Cash Drawer Access
  • 4.1 Sales Reports
  • 4.2 Menu Reports
  • 4.3 Labor Reports
  • 8.1 Financial Accounts

Yes, a cash drawer can be adjusted after it is closed. Follow these steps:

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Reports > Cash and loss management Drawer history.
  2. Select View at the bottom of the column for the respective drawer you'd like to adjust.
  3. Select Update Entries, and then choose the type of adjust you'd like to make (Add Cash In Entry, Add Cash Out Entry, Add Cash Drop Entry, Close Cash Drawer, or Adjust Starting Balance.)
  4. Once the adjustment has been made, make sure to select Submit.

Note: Toast Customer Care cannot make these adjustments on your behalf. All adjustments are logged in the Drawer History to maintain a transparent and auditable record for compliance. Use the comments section to document reasons for changes for added clarity.

While you can make adjustments to cash entries as need, it is not possible to remove an amount from Cash in drawer and add it back to the Cash in hand after a Shift Review has been completed. This limitation ensures accurate record-keeping; once a shift is finalized, the system preserves the integrity of the financial trail to prevent manipulation or errors.
