Disable Tips at Your Restaurant

If your restaurant doesn't tip out your staff and you would like to disable tips across all channels, check out the steps below.

Note: Tips can not be disabled for Text to Pay at this time even if you have it disabled for other products. Text to Pay adheres to the tip settings within your UI Options page. To learn more, see Set Up Tip Options.

Disable Tips on the POS

Note: Delivery tips cannot be disabled when using Toast Delivery Services®.

1. In Toast Web, navigate to Payments > Payment methods > Payment options.
2. Scroll down to the Credit section, and find the Digital Receipt Options settings.
3. For the Tips Enabled setting, select No.
4. Save and publish your changes.
5. Navigate to Payments > Checks & receipt setup > Guest receipt setup.
6. Scroll down to the Display Tip Line setting and select Don't show.
7. Scroll down to the Display Charity Tip Line setting and select No to disable it.
8. Save and publish your changes. 
9. Navigate to Employees > Employee management > Jobs.
10. Make sure the Tipped? column is unchecked for each job. Save and publish if you made any changes.
11. Navigate to Front of house > Order screen setup > UI options > Tipping.
12. For the Custom Tip Percentages fields, enter 0 (zero).
13. Scroll down to the Shift Review / Closeout section, and for the Require Collect and/or Tip Out setting, select No.
14. For the Declare Cash Tips setting, select Remove declare cash tips from shift review.
15. Scroll down to the Shift Review Report Configurations table. Make sure to uncheck Credit Tip Audit, Tips & Fees Earned, and Tip Sharing.
16. Scroll down to the Z Report Configurations table. Make sure to uncheck Server Tip Outs.
17. Save and publish your changes.

Disable Tips on an Individual Device

You can turn off tipping on an individual device if you don't want your guests to be prompted to tip on that device (If you're selling retail products, for example).

1. On the main menu of the Toast app on your terminal, navigate to Device Setup (in the Setup section).
2. Find the Disable tipping on this device setting. If you choose to disable tips, no orders taken on this device will display the tip prompt.

Disable Tips in Online Ordering

1. In Toast Web, navigate to Takeout & delivery > Availability > Online Ordering.
2. Scroll down to the Allow Credit Card Tips section and for the Allow Tipping setting, select Disable tips.
3. Save and publish your changes.

Disable Tips on the Kiosk

1. In Toast Web, navigate to Front of house > Mobile dining solutions > Kiosk setup.
2. Scroll down to the Payments, tipping, and voids section and toggle the Tipping screen setting to the Off position.
3. Save and publish your changes.

Disable Tips for Mobile Dining Solutions

For Toast Mobile Order & Pay®, please contact Toast Customer Care for further assistance in disabling all tipping. 

Disable Invoice Tipping

This is not an option for the module now, but it can be done per invoice by deselecting the tip box in the Server Section of the invoice.
