This article lists and assists in troubleshooting common issues that occur between Sling and Toast POS. May also apply to Payroll in certain situations.

What you'll accomplish: Identify why a record is missing or mismatched between Sling and Toast Web, correct it in the system that controls the field, and confirm the record appears in both places.
Employee, job, location, and wage data syncs from Toast Web to Sling. Timesheet data flows between Toast Web and Sling automatically — timesheets in real time, everything else about every 15 minutes. When something is missing in one system, the cause is almost always a mismatch between the two, or a change made in the system that does not control that field.
Note: A Manager in Sling can only edit employees who share the same location or who have that manager assigned to their employee profile. If you are a Manager and cannot find an employee, ask an Admin on your account to make the change.
| Symptom | Most Common Cause | Quick Fix |
| Employee, job, location, or wage data added in Toast Web has not appeared in Sling | The automatic sync has not run yet | Employee data syncs from Toast Web to Sling every 15 minutes. If a recent change hasn't appeared in Sling yet, wait 15 minutes and check again. If the change still hasn't appeared after 15 minutes, run a manual sync from Sling > Settings > Integrations Note: Manual syncs can only be done every 5 minutes. |
| An employee is active in Toast Web but missing from the Sling employee list | The employee's Sling profile is deactivated | Reactivate the profile in Sling > Employees > Deactivated |
| A position created in Sling never appears in Toast Web | Positions and jobs are controlled by Toast | Create the job in Toast Web; it syncs to Sling as a position |
| A location created in Sling never appears in Toast Web | Locations are controlled by Toast | Add the location in Toast Web. Once added on toast web, sync the location to desired sling account |
| A wage in Sling does not match Toast | The employee wage or the position wage has a different amount or effective date | Check both the employee Wage section and the position Wages tab in Sling, then correct the wage in Toast Web. If Sling still does not match after 15 minutes, correct it in Sling directly |
| A timesheet is not appearing in Time entry management | A position, location, or employee mismatch between the two systems is blocking the sync | Match the employee's position and location in both systems, then add the entry in Toast Web. Learn more here |
Sling and Toast Web sync automatically about every 15 minutes. Timesheets are the exception — they sync in real time.
If your change is still missing after 15 minutes, run a manual sync:
Expected outcome: The record you added or changed in Toast Web appears in Sling.
If the record is still missing after a manual sync, continue to the section below that matches what is missing.
An employee being active in Toast Web does not automatically mean their Sling profile is active. A profile that was deactivated in Sling must be reactivated there before the employee can use Sling.
To check for a deactivated profile:
Expected outcome: The employee moves to your active employee list and can sign in to Sling.
Note: A reactivated employee does not need a new invitation. If their status is Active, they can sign in with their existing credentials, or use the password reset option on the sign-in page if they do not remember their password.
If the employee does not appear in either the active or the deactivated list, contact Toast Customer Care.
Toast controls positions, locations, and wages. A record created only in Sling does not sync back to Toast Web, so create it in Toast Web and let the sync bring it across.
Create the job in Toast Web first. Once the job exists in Toast Web, it syncs to Sling as a position automatically.
Note: A position you create directly in Sling does not sync to Toast Web.
Always add locations in Toast Web. A location created directly in Sling does not sync to Toast Web.
Always create employee profiles in Toast Web first. Once the employee exists in Toast Web, the profile syncs to Sling, including:
If your account is integrated with Toast Payroll, create the employee in Toast Payroll first. The record syncs to Toast Web, and from Toast Web it syncs to Sling.
A wage can be set in two places in Sling, and the two can disagree with each other. Check both before changing anything, because a correct amount with a future effective date shows up as a wrong wage.
Note: Toast Web is the system of record for wages on an integrated account, so make the correction in Toast Web first, or in Toast Payroll if you use it.
Note: An individual position wage on an employee's profile overrides the base wage set on the position. An employee base wage applies to all assigned positions unless a base position wage or an individual position wage is already set.
Once you know which value is wrong, correct it in Toast Web and allow 15 minutes for the sync to run.
If the wage in Sling still does not match after that, correct it in Sling directly using the steps above. Set the wage amount and the Effective Date in the place that was wrong, either the employee Wage section or the position Wages tab.
Expected outcome: The wage matches in both Toast Web and Sling.
If the wage still does not match after correcting it in both systems, contact Toast Customer Care.
Note: Bidirectional timesheet sync requires Sling Pro. On Sling Lite, time clock entries and shifts do not sync between Sling and Toast in either direction. To compare what each version includes, see Sling by Toast: Compare Sling Lite and Sling Pro.
Timesheets sync in real time, so a missing entry is not a delay. Something is blocking it.
If you are on Sling Pro and a timesheet is not appearing in Toast Web > Reports > Labor > Time entry management, check the timesheet's sync status in Sling first.
A data mismatch is blocking the timesheet from syncing. Hover over the icon to see the specific issue. Common causes are:
Correct the mismatch in Toast Web, or adjust the shift details in Sling so both systems match.
The mismatch has most likely already been corrected. Add the entry manually in Toast Web > Reports > Labor > Time entry management.
Note: A corrected timesheet does not automatically resync to Toast Web after the mismatch is resolved. Entries that were blocked while the mismatch existed need to be added manually.
Sling and Toast sync automatically about every 15 minutes. Timesheets sync in real time. If a change other than a timesheet is still missing after 15 minutes, run a manual sync from Sling > Settings > Integrations.

A position created in Sling does not sync to Toast. Positions and jobs must be created in Toast Web first, and they then sync to Sling as positions.
Add locations in Toast Web. A location created directly in Sling does not sync to Toast Web.
Create employee profiles in Toast Web first. The profile then syncs to Sling with the employee's name, contact information, location, position, and wage. If you use Toast Payroll, create the employee there first.
Most employees do not need separate invitations. An employee created in Toast Web uses a unified login and is joined to Sling automatically. An employee who was not created in Toast Web must be added and invited directly in Sling. To check an employee's access, navigate to Employees, locate the employee, and confirm the Status column shows Joined.
A reactivated employee does not need another invitation. If the employee's status is Active, they can sign in to Sling with their existing credentials. If they do not remember their password, they can use the password reset option on the sign-in page.
Time off requests in Sling do not sync to Toast Payroll. Time off submissions need to be entered in both Sling and Toast Payroll manually.
