The "We were unable to save this employee. Please try again" error code occurs during the employee rehire workflow in Toast Payroll.
To troubleshoot this error, first confirm you have the appropriate security role to rehire an employee (Manager or HR+). This is easy to check: if you only see Dashboard and My Profile on the left navigation bar, you only have the Employee security role and cannot rehire an employee.
