Frequently Asked Questions

Does Toast provide the tablet for the Self-Service Waitlist Stand?

Toast does not provide the tablet or stand for the Self-Service Waitlist Stand. Your restaurant provides a recent iPad or Android tablet with Wi-Fi and a web browser, plus a stand or mount. Toast hardware is not supported for the Waitlist Stand at this time.

Where do I find the Waitlist Stand URL?

You find the Waitlist Stand URL in Toast Web. Navigate to Toast Web > Waitlist & Reservations > Settings > Self-Service Stand. For full setup steps, see Get Started With the Toast Tables Self-Service Waitlist Stand.

How do I keep guests from leaving the Waitlist Stand page?

You keep guests on the Waitlist Stand page by locking the tablet. Use Guided Access on an iPad or App pinning on an Android tablet. For steps, see Get Started With the Toast Tables Self-Service Waitlist Stand.

Can guests use the Waitlist Stand when online waitlist is not enabled?

The Waitlist Stand works only during shifts where online waitlist is enabled in your Toast Tables Schedule. It uses the same logic as the online waitlist. You cannot use the stand in your restaurant without enabling online waitlist for those shifts.

What do guests see and enter on the Waitlist Stand?

Guests see the current quoted wait and/or the number of parties ahead of them, based on their party size and preferred dining areas. They enter their name, party size, area preferences, and phone number. After they join, they can scan a QR code to follow their wait and place in line on their own phone. The screen then resets for the next guest.

Do guests get text messages after joining at the Waitlist Stand?

Guests who join at the Waitlist Stand receive the same text messages as parties a host adds to the waitlist. They are added to your waitlist right away.

How do hosts know which parties joined at the Waitlist Stand?

Hosts see the label Joined via Waitlist Stand on new parties in the Toast Tables host app. This helps hosts tell self-added parties apart from parties they enter themselves.

Can the Waitlist Stand replace my host stand?

Toast recommends using the Waitlist Stand together with your host stand, so hosts can focus on texting guests who are next and walking them to their tables. If you run without a host, decide who will text guests when their tables are ready and who will greet them. Also set the Wait Time Estimator to Manual Multiplier instead of Smart Algorithm. For details, see Get Started With Toast Tables.

Who can I contact if the Waitlist Stand is not working?

Contact Toast Customer Care if the Waitlist Stand does not open, does not lock, or does not add guests to your waitlist after you complete the setup steps.
