How do I process a complimentary gift card?

Before discounting a gift card, confirm the "Allow gift cards to be discounted?" setting is enabled in Toast Web under Payments > Payment Methods > Payment Options (Gift Cards section) — set it to "Yes, allow check level discounts to be applied to gift cards," then save and publish. If this setting is set to "No," the discount will not apply even when following the steps below.

 

Note: item-level (rather than check-level) discounts on gift cards are not consistently supported in all order channels — check-level/full-comp discounting is the reliable method.

 

If you want to process a complimentary gift card, there are two ways to do it:

  1. Create a new order on POS. Select Sell Gift Card > Add Gift Card to the order. You can now fully comp the gift card by discounting the gift card item or check.
  2. You can manually add the balance to the gift card on the Inactive Gift Card page.
