Toast requires customers to verify their identity using an ID verification process to access select sensitive information. Learn more in this article.

Access Sensitive Information in Toast Web

In certain circumstances, Toast requires customers to verify their identity using an ID verification process. This flow will ask you to take a photo of yourself (a live selfie) and your government ID. This process ensures an additional level of security for sensitive information.

 

Ideally, you'll only be required to validate your identity once, and will only be required to do so again if you change the name or phone number associated with your identity.

ID Verification Workflow

When you're trying to perform an action or access information that is gated with an ID verification requirement, or visiting toasttab.com/reset to reset your credentials, you'll see the following workflow:

 

  1. You'll be presented with a welcome screen, instructing you to have a government-issued photo ID ready. Select Verify your identity.

    Note:
    Toast uses Persona, a third-party tool, for the verification and upload process. Toast does not store any information uploaded to Persona.

  2. Select the checkbox and Verify Identity.

  3. Select your country of origin.

  4. You'll be presented a list of ID card types. Select the one that matches the ID you're providing.
  5. You'll be prompted to take a new photo of it using your device's camera; you cannot upload a pre-taken photo. Select the camera icon to access your device's camera mode and take a photo. You can also select Continue on another device if the one you're using doesn't have a photo-taking feature; this will email a secure link to you to continue on a different device.

    You may also be prompted to update your camera's device permissions. Use the aforementioned Continue on another device workflow if you're unable to enable these permissions or access your camera.

  6. Center your ID in the frame as laid out. For an optimal photo, be sure to: place your ID on a solid, dark background; use bright, indirect light; avoid glare and shadows; and keep all corners and text visible (do not crop edges). Then, hold your device still; brace your arms on a table if needed. Once it's centered, the app will automatically take a photo of it. If this auto-capture doesn't work, you can select Take photo.   7. This process will repeat for the back of your ID.
  8. You'll see a Processing ID screen. When the upload completes, you'll be asked to take a selfie using the same device camera; center your face, then turn left and right to scan as instructed. You can use the Continue to use other device here as well.

  9. You'll then see a Verifying... screen. The Toast team will review your information and reach out to you with the results. Resolution times may vary depending on the nature of your request. A member of our team will keep you updated on the progress along the way.

Check Your Verification Status 

If you're curious to know your verification status at any time, and are still able to log in to Toast Web, feel free to navigate to Toast Web. The verification status will be indicated under My account (this information will be shown regardless of the way that the ID verification was triggered, automatically or manually).


Here are the possible statuses:

  • You'll see a green "Identity verified" status badge in the Personal Information section when you successfully pass through the ID verification.
  • You'll see a blue "Identity verification under review" status badge in the Personal Information section if you failed ID verification and it is under review by Toast.
  • You'll see a yellow "Identity verification failed" status badge in the Personal Information section if you failed ID verification, Toast has reviewed it, and it has been rejected.

 

It's important to note that once you have verified your ID, the first and last name fields here will be read-only, and the only way to update them will be to pass through the re-verification process. This can be found under My account > Personal information, by selecting Update verified identity.

 

If you are unable to login, but want to check your account verification status, please reach out to Customer Support with the case number that was provided when you submitted your original inquiry.

Troubleshoot Various Persona Issues

Persona Camera Permission Issues

If the flow can’t access your camera, try:

  • Making sure your browser has permission to use the camera.
  • Closing other apps that may be using the camera (video calls, QR scanners, etc.).
  • Refreshing the page and try again, or switch to a different browser (Chrome or Safari).

ID Photo Rejected in Persona

  • Retake in better lighting (bright, indirect light).
  • Avoid glare/shadows and keep the entire ID in frame.
  • Ensure the image is in focus and text is readable.

Selfie / Face Scan Failed in Persona

  • Face a light source and remove hats, masks, or sunglasses.
  • Keep your face centered and follow the liveness prompts on screen.
