When working with any terminal or tablet that is a stationery terminal, it more than likely will be a hardwire Ethernet connection. Ethernet is a cable that carries an electric signal that moves data from one computer to the next.
Ethernet cables are generally more stable than Wi-Fi since they don't have to deal with all the wireless interference and congestion. We choose to use this to ensure higher up-times and stability. With that being said, there will be some scenarios where you may have to troubleshoot your Ethernet cable and connection. Let's go over what a healthy Ethernet connection looks like below.
As you can see above, there are two LED lights above the port into which an Ethernet will be plugged in. Generally, one or both of these LED lights will be on. Sometimes, in the case of the TP-Link, the LED status lights may be in a different area of the box separate from the port. Read the next section of this article to learn more about what the lights mean and how they can help you troubleshoot.
The top-left link LED lets you know if the cable is physically connected to two terminals and receiving a signal. This LED will stay solid.
The top-right activity LED lets you know if data flowing through. This LED will blink as data is passing through.
Certain light combinations mean different things. Let's go over a few scenarios to understand the best troubleshooting steps to take.
