Get familiar with the payment terminal and selection screens to help staff efficiently manage all guest payments on your POS.
First, let's review the features of your POS payment screens (also commonly referred to as payment selection screens). This section covers all features of the screens you use to collect payments and close active orders on your POS.
Check out the image below and then refer to the legend to learn about the buttons in the payment screens for your POS experience. The example below is in dark mode.
| The check details are on the left pane, showing each item with a quantity marker. This will show each item's price and price totals at the bottom. | |
| The pre-authorization banner is on the payment selection screen. If the location has pre-authorization turned on for card payments, it will show a green bar with the last 4 digits of the card number and customer name, stating that it is pre-authorized. | |
| A large button at the top of the payment options on the right-hand side of the display shows the customer’s pre-authorized debit/credit card for easy payment. This feature is called a prioritized saved credit card. It will only appear if a card has already been pre-authorized on the check. | |
| The Split evenly button allows you to split the check evenly in several ways. This button is at the bottom of the display. Note: On your Toast Go handhelds, this will be found in the overflow menu (three vertical dots). | |
| The Rewards button, located at the bottom of the display, opens the rewards screen, where you can scan or swipe a card. | |
| The Service Charge button, located at the bottom of the display, opens a window to add configured service charges to the check. Note: On your Toast Go handhelds, this will be found in the overflow menu (three vertical dots). | |
| Selecting Other payments on the payment screen will open a list of other payment options (e.g., gift card, house account, and comp card). |

Now, let's review the POS features available to your payment terminal screens. This section covers features to the screens where you navigate to look up a check. The payment terminal shows open, closed, and paid checks for a specific user or all users. It also has an advanced filtering option.
Check out the screen below and then refer to the legend to learn about the main features and buttons in the payment terminal screens for your POS experience.
| The check details are located on the left side of the screen to keep it consistent with the rest of the POS screens. | |
| The Tab bar at the top of the screen—used to switch between open, paid, and closed checks—looks like the revenue center selection bar within the table layout screens (learn more: ). It also includes check count indicators next to the check type. You'll see all the checks by filter listed on the payment terminal. Each check will have a check item preview to give your servers and bartenders an indication of what items have been ordered on the check (note that if there aren’t enough items to appear in two rows, then the middle row will be blank) and what the total spend is, and when the check was started. It will also include the check number, table number, and tab name if there is one. | |
| The button has been moved to the top right of the screen, where the search option is also. You can now sort by Most recent, Oldest, Check number, Table number, Amount due, Dollar amount, Customer last name, Tab name, and Quoted time. You can also filter by checks for the current user and online orders. |
With improved search functionality, you can search across all tabs and see results in a list broken down by status (Open, Paid, and Closed). This is what it would look like if you went to search by tab name:
Here is an example of sorting and filtering in action. Note that you can sort by Check number, Most recent, Oldest, Table number, and more. You can also filter by your checks or online orders, or even order type. This will make it much easier for you to find the precise check you're looking for.
Toast has also added a Load all checks button to fetch older closed checks during a server’s shift. The button will be hidden if the server scrolls to view other checks, but will be visible when the server is at the top of the list of checks.
This will be available in Toast Go® 2 and the Flex terminal, as shown in the examples below in light mode.
Toast has also added a blue stripe on the All checks screen on the payment terminal to easily differentiate between checks the logged-in server owns and checks other employees own. You'll see the blue stripe on the left side of the check where the current logged-in server owns that check. In the example below, the server has six open checks.
The Check Details pane will always be visible from the All checks screen on the Payment Terminal.
Servers can always double-tap on a given check on the All checks screen to open that check.

The tip selection screen has been updated visually with enlarged text and buttons and a streamlined copy to make it clear what your guests are tipping and how much they will be charged in total. Toast has also prioritized the highest tip suggestion and deprioritized the Custom tip and No tip buttons below the tip suggestions.
The receipt selection screen has been visually updated with enlarged text and buttons. Toast also prioritized the No receipt selection, knowing that most customers opt out of receiving receipts. If a guest would like a receipt, they can choose to Print, Text, or Email it to themselves.
