Order a Printer for a Non-English Language

Question

What do I need to know if I want a printer that prints in Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, or Thai?

Answer

Non-English language printers cannot be purchased via Toast Shop. Customers must contact Toast directly to special order a printer of this type. If your restaurant is live already, contact Customer Care. If you're still in onboarding, speak to your Onboarding Consultant (OC) or Customer Success Manager (CSM) to add a language printer to your restaurant setup.

Once purchased, your new printer will be configured by our hardware team and shipped to you. Once it arrives, follow the directions in Toast Kitchen Printer Quick Start Guide to install the printer.

After your printer has been connected to Toast, complete these steps to enable printing in non-English:

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Payments > Checks & receipt setup > Printers and cash drawers.
  2. Select the name of the printer.
  3. Scroll down to Character Set. Select the language you would like your tickets or receipts to print in and select Save.
  4. Now that the printer settings are in place, you can add non-English names to your menu items. As a reminder, the Name field shows up on guest-facing receipts, the POS Name appears on buttons on the POS device, and the Kitchen Name is what shows up on back of house printers and KDS.

If you mistakenly ordered one of these printers or you'd like to swap one out, contact Customer Care so we can perform a return and get you the printer you need.
