Production item count helps prep cooks who need to know at a glance how many of each ingredient is needed to fulfill all of the orders that have been sent to the kitchen at any given moment. This ensures that high volumes of orders can be fulfilled quickly without taking time to read through dozens of tickets on the KDS.
How does production item count differ from all day display? While similar, All Day Display summarizes at the item level (e.g. 5 Double Cheeseburgers) while the production item count will summarize at the ingredient level (e.g. 10 Burger Patties).
Note: All Day Display takes an extra button click to complete, and production item count is always displayed at the bottom of the device. To learn more, check out this Toast Central article: Get Started with KDS All Day Display.
Additionally, production count is only available for items, and not modifiers.
Follow these steps to create production items:
Once you've created your production items, you'll need to attach them to specific menu items. You can do so by following these steps:
Repeat this process with each item that has a production item you want to track has been configured.
Once production items are created and attached to menu items, you'll need to set your KDS device to show production items.
Once production items have been configured in Toast Web and on the device, you won't need to do any additional work. Your production items will appear at the bottom of your KDS screen.
The numbers will only include fired items. If you're using course firing or item fire by prep time and something hasn't fired, the item count will not include that item. The item count will decrease when the related item is fulfilled.
As default, any held tickets are not included in your production item count. However, you can easily change your settings so tickets that are held via automated and expediter course firing are included in your production item count.
Note: This feature will only be available when the KDS module is enabled and will not include any items marked as "hold" on the POS device.
