Standard API Access

Question

What is standard API access?

Answer

Standard API access provides you with credentials for read-only access to Toast’s APIs, which can be used to read and review data from any of your locations. (API is short for application programming interface.)

Standard API access allows you to:

  • Generate multiple credential sets. Each set is configurable to grant read access to specific restaurants or stores.
  • Use the credentials to read and review data from restaurants and stores included in your credential configuration.

What if I need write access or a custom API integration?

Standard API Access is read-only. If you need write permissions or a custom integration, this is arranged through your Toast account representative. If your account doesn't have a dedicated representative, contact Customer Support so they can submit the request and let you know what to expect next.

Check out our developer guide for more information on Standard API access. Standard API access is available as part of Restaurant Management Essentials (RMS) for U.S. customers. It will be available in RMS to non-U.S. Toast customers soon.

Additional Information

For U.S. customers, Standard API Access is included as part of Restaurant Management Essentials (RMS), so a related charge on your invoice is tied to your RMS subscription rather than a specific third-party integration. For international customers and customers on an MSA (where RMS isn't yet available), Standard API Access is billed as its own standalone subscription instead—sometimes labeled “API Monthly Subscription,” or in older records, “Partner Integration.” That naming can make it look like the charge is tied to a specific integration partner, but it isn't—either way, this charge reflects general access to Toast’s API, not a fee for any one integration. To confirm what a specific line item on your invoice is for, contact Customer Support.

If you have general questions regarding API access, integration design, exposed data points, or related topics, you can sign up for an account on our Toast Integrations Zendesk to access our Toast Integrations Community Forum.

If you have specific questions around an API response or error, or questions that contain sensitive data such as Client IDs or PII, use this form to request support. You will need to set up a Toast Integrations Zendesk account, as noted above.
