Per the IRS, Form 1099-K is an IRS information return used to report certain payment transactions to improve voluntary tax compliance. In other words, you'll find the gross amount of all transactions from payment card processors on this form. "Gross amount" means the total dollar amount of total reportable payment transactions without adjustments for credit, cash equivalents, discount amounts, fees, refunded amounts, or any other amounts.
Toast will mail you your Form 1099-K(s) during each January of the year. The form cannot be found on Toast Web. No direct action is necessary when you receive this form(s), but using it to assist in reporting income you receive. They suggest considering the amounts shown on Form 1099-K, along with all other amounts received, when calculating gross receipts for your income tax return. Why do the totals on your Sales Summary report differ from your form 1099-K? First, you'll need to add up all 1099-Ks that you receive to get your complete total. Second, it's still likely that these numbers do not match due to the timing of deposits. Your Sales Summary will show all sales on the day they were taken. Form 1099-Ks reflect deposits, which generally occur 1-3 days after a sale. Therefore, there are a few days in the Sales Summary that are not included in Form 1099-Ks, and vice-versa.
If you find an error on the Form 1099-K received, Toast can correct and reissue your Form 1099-K. Errors requiring a corrected Form 1099-K include: incorrect business, incorrect EIN, or financial calculation discrepancy. Please for further assistance.
If you didn't receive your Form 1099-K copy from Toast after the standard delivery period, before you reach out to Customer Care, check your Spam or Junk folders in your email inbox. If you still do not see it, you can request that Toast resend it by and providing your Merchant ID (EIN). Emailed forms can take 3+ business days to reach your inbox. Mailed forms do not have a standard delivery timeline.
