Understand Form 1099-K

Last updated: Jun 3, 2026, 12:34 PM

Form 1099-K is sent to qualified customers in January of each year and reflects details on credit card network transactions for the calendar year.

Toast distributes printed Form 1099-K documents via mail to eligible merchants every January. If you'd like a Form 1099-K for a prior year, please contact customer care through chat. Include the year, specific locations, and delivery method (mail or email) you prefer. You might confirm the business address or email address you'd like this shipped to as well. For email, the standard expected timeline is 3+ business days once your request has been processed by our team.

In this article:

Why do you need 1099-K form?

Form 1099-K reports the credit-card payments Toast processed for your business. It is issued to the business that processed payments through Toast.

If you are looking for a contractor tax form (Form 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC) because you were paid as an independent contractor through Toast Payroll, see Toast Payroll: Manage 1099 Contractors instead. The two forms are different and are issued by different parts of Toast.

If Your Sales Summary Totals Do Not Match

Sales Summary totals and Form 1099-K totals will not match exactly. The difference comes from timing:

  • Sales Summary shows sales on the day they were taken.
  • Form 1099-K reflects deposits, which usually occur one to three days after a sale.
  • A few days of sales near the start and end of the year fall in one report but not the other.

To compare your totals:

  1. Add up every Form 1099-K you received for the year — Toast may issue more than one form per business.
  2. Compare the sum to the matching deposit window in your Sales Summary, not the sale-date window.

Note: Payments processed through third-party platforms such as Uber Eats or Grubhub are not on your Toast Form 1099-K. Those platforms issue their own 1099-Ks separately.

Expected outcome: Your Form 1099-K total matches the deposit-window total from your Sales Summary, within the normal one-to-three-day deposit timing.

If You Stopped Using Toast

If you stopped using Toast during a calendar year, Toast still mails Form 1099-K the following January for the period you processed payments. The form is mailed to the business address on file when service ended. It is not available online after account deactivation.

If the address on file is no longer current, contact Toast Customer Care through chat to update it and request a resend — see Contact Customer Support.

Expected outcome: You receive your Form 1099-K by mail at your business address on file, or Toast Customer Care resends it to a current address.

If You Have Multiple Locations or Entities

Toast issues a separate Form 1099-K for each business entity that processed payments. If you have multiple LLCs or company codes, expect more than one form.

  1. Contact Toast Customer Care through chat — see Contact Customer Support.
  2. Provide every business entity name, EIN, and location you need a form for.
  3. Confirm a single delivery method and destination for all forms, or specify per-entity preferences.

Expected outcome: Toast Customer Care sends one Form 1099-K per business entity.
