Why do I have multiple tickets for the same order on my KDS?

Question

  • Why are my courses separated into individual tickets on my KDS?
  • Why are my tickets going to the kitchen split up into multiple tickets?
  • Can I have all of my courses in a single order on a single KDS ticket?

Answer

If your tickets are being sent to the kitchen separately, it may be because the course pacing feature is enabled. If you don't want the tickets to split up into multiple tickets, please follow these steps:

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Kitchen Pacing > Meal pacing.
  2. Select your printer from the list.
  3. Under Course Pacing, uncheck the box next to Enable course pacing.
  4. Save and publish your changes.

If you're seeing one item per ticket and multiple tickets per order, it's likely that you have your KDS set to Display each item on individual tickets at both prep stations and expos or Display each item on individual tickets at prep stations only

To adjust these settings:

  1. Log in to Toast Web.
  2. Navigate to Kitchen > Printers, tickets, & KDS devices > Kitchen and ticket setup.
  3. Under the Printer Tickets and Ticket Screen section, locate the Individual Item Tickets setting.
  4. Save and Publish any changes.

If you're seeing multiple items per ticket and multiple tickets per order, it is likely that you have meal pacing turned on at your restaurant:

  • If you're using courses, it's not possible to have all courses listed on a single ticket. Courses will always be broken out into individual tickets per course on your kitchen display screens. To learn more, see Configure Automated and Expediter Course Firing.
  • If you're using item fire by prep time, that can also result in multiple tickets per order as items are fired to the kitchen at different times. To learn more, see Configure Item Fire by Prep Time
