Learn how to prevent tickets from printing at certain printers with a non-printing prep station.
To stop specific menu items — such as drinks, fountain beverages, or bar items — from printing a kitchen ticket, create a "No Print" prep station in Toast Web with no printer assigned, then route those items to it.

Applies to: Toast Web
Permissions needed: Kitchen and Menus edit access. If you do not see Kitchen or Menus in the left navigation, contact your Toast administrator.
Expected outcome: Items assigned to the No Print prep station will not print a kitchen ticket. The next time those items are ordered, no ticket will appear on any prep station printer.

If items are still printing after you created a No Print prep station, work through the following checks in order.
The items are not routed to the No Print prep station. Creating the prep station does not automatically assign items to it. Navigate to Menus > Menu management > Advanced properties, enable the Prep Stations column, and confirm that each affected item shows No Print in its Prep Stations drop-down. If not, assign it, then select Save and Publish.
The Always Print Tickets checkbox is enabled on the item or its parent group. This setting on an individual item or menu group overrides the prep station configuration. Navigate to Menus > Menu management, open each affected item and its parent group, and confirm the Always Print Tickets checkbox is not selected. Select Save and Publish after making any changes.
The item inherits its prep station from a parent group routed elsewhere. If a menu group is assigned to a different prep station, its items inherit that assignment. Open the parent group in Menus > Menu management > Advanced properties and review its Prep Stations assignment. Either reassign the group to No Print or override each item individually.
If you have checked all three and the items still print, contact Toast Customer Care.

"Also at: No Print" appears in the footer of a kitchen ticket when a food prep station is configured to route to the No Print prep station, or when the No Print prep station is configured to send to a food prep station.

A No Print prep station applies to kitchen ticket printers only — it does not suppress receipt printing or label printing. Receipt and label printing are controlled by separate settings. For help with those, see Configure and Assign Prep Stations or contact Toast Customer Care.
