When the employer match amounts for employee retirement funds are not calculating correctly on payroll, how can I find the issue?

Are you trying to view an employee's 401k/Roth/Simple IRA employer match outside of a calculated payroll?
Employer matches will only populate on a fullycalculated payroll. Employee profiles, quick calc entries, and the payroll spreadsheet will always show zero amounts.
Does the employee have an active 401k/Roth/Simple IRA deduction code and an active 401k/Roth/Simple IRA Match deduction code on their profile?
Navigate to an employee's profile and select Recurring > Deductions tab.
Is the employer match deduction code set to zero?
Employer match deductions are placeholders for payroll and should not have an amount listed. Take a look at this example:
Were the employer match calculation rules set up in the backend of Toast Payroll?
If not, send your request to and the team will set it up within 24 business hours.
New employer match rules will not be set up while you are actively running payroll.
Does your employer's match require a certain benefit tier for calculation?
Some employer matches are unique to specific groups of employees. If this is the case for your rules, check to make sure the correct benefit tier is assigned to the employee's profile. From the employee's profile, navigate to Benefits. Update the first dropdown menu with the correct benefits tier and confirm the details on the following pop-up. Then select Save from the upper-right corner to apply the updated tier.
Are the amounts showing up as $0 even though everything looks to be set up correctly?
