How does an employee select their method of payment?

Employees can log on and navigate to My Profile > Employment > Payment Method. This page will instruct them to navigate to their email inbox and retrieve a two-factor authentication code. Once entered into the payroll system, employees will see a screen similar to this where they may choose their method.

What methods does Toast Payroll offer for how employees receive their pay?

• Direct Deposit: This is the most commonly used method. If you’d like to view or update current direct deposit information, review this Toast Central article for instructions on how to do so, .
• Paper Check: If paper check is chosen, see the next question
• Toast Pay Card: A Toast Pay Card can be used similar to a debit card and employees will receive same day pay outs. Employers can learn more about the Toast Pay Card .

When employees select paper check, what options do employers have for generating a check?

Navigate to Settings > Payroll > Paycheck Delivery to make your selection:
 

• • Self-Written: You can pay employees in cash, hand-write checks from your business's checkbook, or use a combination of methods. Visit for more details.
  • Self-Printed: You can print checks anywhere you have a printer. for more information.
  • Toast-Printed: These checks contain employee net amounts and are shipped via UPS for an additional charge. Learn more .

What paycheck delivery option is right for our business?

What is the shipping process for live checks?

1. Payroll is posted by 5:00 pm EST (4:00 pm CST), 3 days before the check date. Once payroll is processed, Toast prints the checks on the processed date.
2. Checks are printed and sorted on the same day payroll is processed.
   1. Posting payroll after the 5:00 pm EST (4:00 pm CST) deadline will result in delayed check delivery. If payroll is posted after the 5:00 pm EST (4:00 pm CST) deadline, paychecks will be printed and sorted the following day for overnight delivery.
3. Toast will provide a tracking number on the of your payroll.
4. Checks are shipped for delivery day. Checks are shipped for next day delivery (or specific delivery set up during onboarding).

How can I track my UPS check package?

• • You will receive a confirmation email from UPS which contains a tracking number. If you are not receiving shipping confirmation emails, please contact Customer Care to ensure the correct email address was provided.

How do I make sure direct deposit amounts are hitting employee accounts on payday?

In order to guarantee that direct deposit amounts are hitting employee accounts, we recommend posting three days before the check date by 5:00 pm EST (4:00 pm CST). If you do not post before this time, checks may not get out in a timely manner.  for more information.

Does Toast print and ship vendor checks to agencies for items such as garnishments?

Yes. Vendor checks can be sent directly to the vendor or included in the payroll package if you receive one. Learn how to set up vendors .

What can I do if my employee lost or damaged their paycheck?

Customers writing out of their own account should contact their bank and request a stop payment on the check. Legacy customers writing out of Toast's account should contact Toast to request a stop payment for a $25 fee.
 

To reissue the funds:
 

• You may always write a manual check in-house for the net pay amount. Locate this amount on the employee's Pay History page.
• Self-Printed paycheck delivery customers should request a reissued check from Toast. Reprinting the same check will produce a duplicate of the one that you put a stop payment on, so a new check number will need to be generated.
• Toast-Printed customers can request a reissued check from Toast with a new check number.
• You may also add the paycheck amount as a to the next pay cycle. If you decide to go this route, make sure to contact Toast and request that the original check is . A void must be done within the same quarter of the lost/damaged check's payroll was ran to avoid amendments.

What do I do if an employee did not receive their check?

Assuming an employee has opted into a paper check , this answer changes depending on the paycheck delivery option the restaurant has chosen:
 

• Self-Written: Employees are paid through a alternate form of payment (in cash, payment app). Since Toast only provides the net pay, we cannot assist with employees missing paychecks in this scenario.
• Self-Printed: Toast provides a PDF file of employee paychecks and paystubs. Employers can follow the directions in to print and distribute these checks.
• Toast-Printed: Toast Payroll will mail a package of paychecks to the employer's business address; Toast Payroll does not mail checks directly to employees. If the package has not arrived at the business address, use the tracking number found on the confirmation page of payroll (Payroll > Past Payrolls > View). If tracking indicates the package has arrived, but it is lost or missing, contact Customer Care.

Why won't banks allow employees to cash checks?
