Learn why a check can show different dates in Toast reports, what Paid in total means, and how to keep blank orders from staying open overnight.
The same check can show different dates in different reports when the order is opened on one day and paid on a later day. An order keeps the date it was opened, and a payment shows on the date it was processed. Reports can use either date, so the same check can appear on two different days.
This happens, for example, when someone opens a blank order, leaves it open overnight, and adds items to it the next day.
A Paid in total line appears on your Sales Summary when you collect a payment on one day for an order that was opened on a different day. If a blank order stays open overnight and is paid the next day, that payment shows as Paid in total on the day it was paid.
Paid in total counts toward your Sales Summary total, but it does not appear in net sales that day. For more detail, see Sales Summary FAQ.
No revenue is missing when a check shows on two different dates. The payment is collected and settles on the day it is paid. Only the date shown in each report is different.
You can prevent a blank order from staying open overnight by exiting every blank order before you close for the day. Select the back arrow in the top-left corner of the POS until the order closes. Locking the screen does not close the order.
If a blank order appears right after you enter your passcode in the morning, exit it before you add items. Then open a new order so the day starts with a clean order.
If the dates still do not match, contact Toast Customer Care. Have the check number and the date each report shows for it ready.
