About Toast IQ Agents

A Toast IQ agent does a recurring job for your restaurant, such as flagging missed clock-outs before payroll closes. It checks your Toast data on a schedule and sends a short update by push notification or email. To learn more, see Toast IQ Agents Overview.

Before You Begin

Applies to: Toast IQ, Toast Web, Toast Test Kitchen

 

Permissions needed:

  • 4.1 Sales Reports or 4.3 Labor Reports (needed to use Toast IQ)

 

What you'll accomplish: You'll have a Toast-built agent running on a schedule and sending updates to the people you choose.

Step 1: Join Toast IQ Agents Early Access

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Toast account > Test Kitchen > Test Kitchen.
  2. Find Toast IQ agents and opt in.

 

After you opt in, the Agents tab appears in Toast IQ right away.

 

Note: The Test Kitchen page currently only works on a desktop computer.

Step 2: Open the Agent Library

  1. Open Toast IQ from the top-left corner of the Toast Web navigation menu.
  2. Select the Agents tab. The agent manager shows any agents you've set up, plus a few recommended agents.
  3. Open the agent library to browse every Toast-built agent you can set up. To view the agent library, see Toast IQ Agents Overview.

Step 3: Set Up Your Agent

  1. Select the agent you want to use. The agent details page opens.
  2. Choose how often and when the agent runs. Each agent starts with a default schedule, such as daily at 8 a.m.
  3. Select Add recipient to add other people at your restaurant. As the person setting up the agent, you're included automatically.
  4. Choose how updates are delivered: push notification, email, or both. The person who created the selected the agent can receive push notifications. Other recipients get updates by email only.
  5. If the agent offers other settings, such as a threshold or comparison window, adjust them as needed.

Step 4: Preview and Save Your Agent

  1. Review the preview to see the update the agent would send right now.
  2. Select Save.
  3. When the confirmation appears, return to the agent manager.

 

Expected outcome: Your agent shows as Running in the agent manager and sends updates on the schedule you set. Alert agents only send an update when something needs your attention.

 

Note: Early access includes up to two Toast-built agents. The agent manager lets you know when you've reached the limit.
