Factory Reset Your Toast Flex Terminal

Last updated: Dec 17, 2025, 5:12 PM

Question

How do I factory reset my Toast Flex?

Answer

Factory resetting is NOT standard practice for troubleshooting terminals. DO NOT factory reset your terminal until you are prepared and familiar with the results of this process. If you have any questions at all, contact Customer Care before proceeding.

Before You Begin

  1. Ensure all payments are uploaded to the cloud to avoid losing credit card transactions.
    1. From the Toast app, select the three-dot overflow menu in the top-right corner.
    2. Select Device Status and confirm that the device is online.
    3. Open the Queues tab to verify there are 0 pending items.
  2. Only continue once you’ve confirmed there are no pending payments.

Reset Options

There are two ways to factory reset your Flex terminal:

  1. Reset from Android Settings
  2. Reset using Button Combinations

Note: The Button Combination method uses the device’s recovery screen. The experience may vary depending on your Flex model and Android version:

  • 22" Toast Flex - Android 12: Always uses the standard Android recovery screen.
  • 14" Toast Flex - Android 12: Uses the standard Android recovery screen.
  • 14" Toast Flex - Android 7.1 and 9: Uses a Phoenix recovery screen.

Reset from Android Settings (recommended)

  1. Go to Android Settings > System > Reset Options > Erase All Data (Factory Reset).
  2. The device will restart, and the factory reset will be complete.

Reset Using Button Combinations

  1. Power off your terminal.
  2. Locate the small reset hole (right below the power button).
  3. Insert a pin or paper clip into the hole and then press the power button at the same time until you see the Toast logo appear on the screen.
  4. The device will enter the recovery screen.
  5. On the recovery screen:
    1. Select Wipe data/factory reset (for Android Recovery).
    2. Select Factory Data Reset (for Phoenix Recovery).
  6. For Phoenix Recovery only, after the reset is complete, select Restart.

Note:

  • After the factory reset, you may need to reconfigure any Android device-specific settings you had set up.
  • Ensure that the device has no pending payments, and hold the reset button for approximately 10-12 seconds until the device enters the recovery screen.
  • After the reset, all device data and settings will be erased. You will need to log in using your Toast credentials. Additionally, system essentials such as Toast Guardian will remain installed. Registered peripherals, like printers, will automatically reconnect upon network restoration, and the reset only affects the particular device being reset.
