What you'll accomplish: You'll launch a promotion that automatically emails guests a bonus gift card when their eGift card purchase reaches a minimum spend.

How Bonus Gift Card Promotions Work

A Buy X, Get Y bonus gift card promotion gives guests a separate bonus gift card when they buy a set amount of eGift cards. Bonus gift cards work like any other Toast gift card. They hold a balance, count toward your gift card liability, and appear in your gift card reports.

 

Bonus gift card promotions run online only, in your Toast eGift Card shop. Gift cards sold in-store on the Toast POS don't earn a bonus gift card.

 

Note: Bonus gift card promotions are different from Buy X, Get Y bonus voucher promotions, which issue a single-use promo code instead of a gift card. To set up a bonus voucher promotion, see Set Up and Manage “Buy X, Get Y” Promotions: Reward Gift Card Purchases with Discount Vouchers.

Set Up a Bonus Gift Card Promotion

To set up a bonus gift card promotion:

  1. Navigate to Toast Web > Marketing > Offers.
  2. Select the Sell more gift cards tile.
  3. Select Sell more gift cards as your Goal.
  4. Select Buy $X in Gift Cards, Get $Y Bonus Gift Card.
  5. Configure your first tier:
    1. Minimum spend: The total gift card value a guest must buy in one cart to qualify.
    2. Bonus gift card amount: The value of the bonus gift card the guest receives.
  6. Add more tiers if needed. Guests receive one bonus gift card per transaction, for the highest tier they qualify for.
  7. Select Continue.
  8. Set the dates you want the promotion to run.
  9. Select Continue.
  10. Review your tiers and bonus amounts, and preview the email guests receive with their bonus gift card.
  11. Select Create Offer.
  12. Select Publish.

 

Note: The highest minimum spend you can set is $500, which is the maximum eGift card purchase amount in the eGift Card shop.

 

Expected outcome: Your promotion is live. Your eGift Card shop shows a banner and pop-up with your tiers and bonus amounts, and qualifying guests receive a bonus gift card by email.

Note: Each eGift Card shop needs its own promotion. If all your locations share one eGift Card shop link, you need only one promotion. Guests can redeem bonus gift cards at any location in your gift card group.

How Guests Receive Bonus Gift Cards

When a guest's eGift card purchase meets a minimum spend tier, Toast emails a bonus gift card to the receipt email address used for that purchase. The email comes from no-reply@toasttab.com with the subject line "Your free gift card to [Restaurant Name]."

Track Bonus Gift Cards

To track the bonus gift cards your promotion has issued:

  1. Navigate to Toast Web > Marketing > Offers > Track & manage.
  2. Select your promotion.
  3. Select Offer Details.
  4. Filter the list by date, or search by gift card number or check ID to find a specific bonus gift card.

 

Expected outcome: You can see how many bonus gift cards were issued and the check ID each one came from. From this list, you can also deactivate an individual bonus gift card if needed.

End or Archive a Bonus Gift Card Promotion

To end or archive a bonus gift card promotion:

  1. Navigate to Toast Web > Marketing > Offers > Track & manage.
  2. Select your promotion.
  3. Select the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
  4. Select one of the following:
    1. End offer or Complete: Stops the promotion.
    2. Archive: Stops the promotion and hides it from your promotion list.

 

Expected outcome: Guests no longer earn bonus gift cards. Bonus gift cards that were already issued keep their balance and can still be redeemed.
