Printer settings you can change

On the Printer Configuration page, you can change the following settings for the selected printer.

SettingWhat it does
NameIdentifies the printer in the system. Use a name that communicates the printer's location or use, such as Takeout Printer.
ModelDetermines the receipt formatting. If the wrong model is selected, receipts can print with the wrong layout. To find your model, refer to the Toast Compatible Printers article.
Serial NumberA unique number found on a label on the bottom or side of the printer. Enter this when your printer uses a dynamic (DHCP) setup.
IP AddressThe static IP address assigned to the printer. Enter this when your printer uses a static setup. The static IP range is 192.168.192.XXX, where XXX is an open number from 168 to 200.
Paper WidthSets the paper roll width so printouts are the correct size. The TP200's paper roll is usually 3 1/8 inches, or 80 mm (Wide).
Character SetSets the language your tickets or receipts print in.
BackupSelects a backup printer, so a failed print job fails over to another printer on your network.

Note: Enter either a Serial Number or an IP Address for a printer — not both. To tell whether your printer uses a dynamic (DHCP) or static setup and which value to enter, see Printer Setup in Toast Web.

Note: There are (TP200) Toast Receipt Printer, (TKP300) Toast Kitchen Printer, and Epson U220 models that can print in Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, or Thai. These languages are available only by special request when purchasing a new printer, and the printer is configured by Toast before it ships. (TP300) Printing Hub can print all of these languages in the standard model. The Character Set option appears only when the Printing Hub, Toast Receipt Printer, Toast Kitchen Printer or Epson U220 model is selected.

Change cash drawer settings

If a cash drawer is connected to the printer, the Printer Configuration page also includes cash drawer settings:

  • Cash Drawer? — Enable this when a cash drawer is connected to the printer.
  • Cash Drawer Name — An identifying name for the drawer. Toast recommends naming it after its location in the restaurant.
  • Cash Drawer Delay — How long, in milliseconds, the drawer waits before opening.
  • Starting Cash Drawer Balance — The default amount of cash the drawer starts with.
  • Reset Balance Type — Choose Automatic so a new drawer opens preset with your starting balance and all open drawers close each night at 4 a.m., or choose Manual so you enter a new starting balance each time and drawers do not close automatically overnight.

Note: If two drawers are attached to a single printer, configure both a Primary and a Secondary drawer.

For full cash drawer setup, including connecting two drawers to one terminal, see Set Up Cash Drawers.
