Mobile Dining Solutions Overview
With Toast, restaurants can fully customize their digital dining offering to fit their operational and guest needs. Whether you’re a guest aiming to pay faster or a full-service restaurant looking to put your guest in control of ordering and the entire dining experience, Toast’s digital dine-in products (mobile payments, digital menus, and Toast Mobile Order & Pay™) have a solution to fit your needs.
Quick service and fast-casual restaurants can allow guests to skip lines, order from their mobile devices, and get text notifications when their order is ready. On average, guests tip on 18% more transactions at QSRs when they pay through Toast Mobile Order & Pay™ vs. standard checkout.
By putting your guests in control of their dine-in experience, Toast Mobile Order & Pay™ can help reduce your labor costs, improve table turn times, and increase sales. See the list below to discover how mobile payments, digital menus, and Toast Mobile Order & Pay™ can offer guests a safer and more efficient way to dine in your restaurant.
Increase Ticket Size - By allowing guests to order independently or as part of a group, you may see an increased number of items ordered and send to the kitchen. The average Toast Mobile Order & Pay™ ticket is around 12% larger than tickets placed with traditional serving methods based on performance data from select Toast customers.
Guest and Staff Safety - Mobile dining solutions eliminate high-touch items like menus, receipts, and pens. A touchless option can make guests and staff in your restaurant feel more secure.
Seamless Guest Experience - If your restaurant features a non-standard service area like a theatre or lounge, you can use Toast Mobile Order & Pay™ to create an immersive guest experience. In a theatre- a guest can order refreshments without interrupting their show. In a lounge featuring games like bowling, pool, or arcade machines, guests can order and pay as soon as they are ready, without waiting for a server.
Reduce Labor Costs - With Toast's digital dine-in offerings, you can cover your floor with fewer staff members and free up staff to spend more time on hospitality. Additionally, with guests in the driver's seat of their dining experience, you may see more guests each shift because they can submit orders as soon as they sit down and close their checks when they have finished their meal.
Increase Service Area - You can use Toast Mobile Order & Pay™ to increase your service area across areas like resorts, parking lots, and lounges. By placing QR codes in cabanas or hotel rooms, you can extend your service area and give guests more opportunities to order.
Better Tip Outs - By reducing the number of staff members needed to support a section of the restaurant, staff members have the potential to generate more revenue in tips each shift.

| Use Case | Setup |
| QSR with traditional counter service (coffee shop, cafe...) | With QR signs at tables, guests can skip waiting in line and order from their phones. Set up tabs for Toast Mobile Order & Pay™ and allow your guests to place coffee orders continuously and pay when they are done. For locations without tables, make sure to manually print the guest-facing receipt for each order so you know who the order belongs to. Learn more about receipt setup . |
| Hotel restaurant with room service | Leave the QR signs in hotel rooms and allow your guests to view your menu and order directly from the comfort of their own room. When setting up your tables, make sure to create a floor plan for the hotel rooms instead, most likely in a separate service area. Use pre-authorization so you don't have to worry about payment. |
| Restaurants with non-traditional seating (boardwalk, garden, expansive outdoor seating) | Add QR signs to benches and other outdoor seating. Instead of tables, use benches or picnic tables when setting up your floor plan. Make sure to be descriptive and name them in a way your guests will recognize. For this setup, we recommend setting up pre-authorization so your guests can leave when they are done eating. |
| QSR with drive-in or parking lot | Your guests can sit comfortably in their car and order their pizza or double cheeseburger directly from their phones. Add the QR signs in a highly visible location for each parking space and ensure your table set up consists of parking spaces instead. |
| Resort and water park | Leave the QR signs at the seats by the pool or at the cabanas and allow your guests to order directly from their phones during their stay. Use cabana numbers or number the seats by the pool when creating your floor chart and use tabs to allow guests to order continuously throughout the day and pay when they're done. |
| Lounge or bar with pool tables, games, or bowling alley |
| Your guests don't have to stop during a game to order food. During their visit, allow them to open tabs and continue ordering from the bar and kitchen. For this setup, we recommend setting up tabs, pre-authorization, and group orders for Toast Mobile Order & Pay™. Ensure to card guests at the server check-in or when drinks are run to them. |
| Market or special event with multiple vendors or booths | Allow guests to order directly from a specific booth or vendor. Make sure to be descriptive when setting up your floor chart so your guests and runners know each location. |
| Theatre, movie theatre, drive-in movie theatre | Place the QR signs on seats or in parking spots and allow your guests to enjoy the show or movie without getting up to order more popcorn. Pre-authorization can be used to avoid walk-outs when the movie or show is over. |
| Bar or beer garden | Bars and beer gardens with non-traditional seating arrangements can benefit from digital dine-in solutions. Allow your guests to order directly from their phones and set up group ordering and pre-authorization to ensure large groups pay for their drinks. Make sure to card guests when drinks are run to them. |
