How do you account for driver tips on Toast Delivery Services® orders? Learn how in this article.
Your delivery provider collects the driver tips that guests leave on each Toast Delivery Services® (TDS) order. Toast Delivery Services tips should be deducted from Credit/Non-Cash tips before paying out your restaurant staff. Continue reading for instructions on doing this using Close Out Day on the POS or the Sales Summary and Labor Summary Report in Toast Web.
Once you enable delivery using Toast Delivery Services, Toast auto-generates an employee named TDS Driver with a job type of Delivery Services Driver. All tips your guests leave on Toast Delivery Services orders will be assigned to TDS Driver. You should not edit the employee name for TDS Driver, as doing so would no longer set aside tips you collected on behalf of TDS drivers.
Note: When a delivery order is assigned to an employee with a job set up as a "TDS driver," they will receive any tips/gratuities assigned to the check. Therefore, even if a server and Driver are assigned to a TDS order, the TDS Driver employee assigned as the driver will receive the tips assigned to the check.

If your restaurant uses Close Out Day on a POS device to determine how much Credit/Non-Cash tips to tip out to employees, follow the instructions below to ensure you properly deduct the tips earned by TDS drivers.
A user that has the employee permission Shift Review can navigate to Shift Review from a POS device and complete the shift review for the employee TDS Driver. The screenshot below shows a user can identify the matching tip total with the Close Out Day report.
After completing the shift review for TDS Driver and other tipped staff and the closeout process for all cash drawers, closeout cash reporting will now include removing TDS driver tips.
Choosing not to complete a shift review for user TDS Driver will not include the removal TDS Driver tips in the Expected Deposit total. The Expected Deposit table only reflects on cash collected and tip-outs performed through the Shift Review workflow. Total Cash indicates all cash payments and tips received, regardless of order source.
If a restaurant prefers not to complete a shift review, the difference between Expected Deposit and Total Cash will be the total of Toast Delivery Service tips.

In , you created an employee profile for your TDS Driver in Toast Web only. If you also use Toast Payroll, keep in mind that employee profiles created in Toast Web will not sync over and create a mapped profile in Toast Payroll. This means that you should not see any tips from this Toast Web profile synced into Toast Payroll.
If you for any reason also have a Toast Payroll profile for this TDS Driver, you can easily disable those tip amounts from reaching future payroll runs. See step 7 of for more information.
If a TDS Driver has tips incorrectly recorded on a submitted payroll run, an HR+ user should contact the Customer Care team via the blue dot in the lower-right corner of any Toast Payroll page to request a void for these earnings.
