Learn how to set up or change your printed receipts.

In this Article:

Receipt Overview

There are number of different types of receipts you might print:

  • Initial check (printed from the payment screen on your POS)
  • Cash payment receipt
  • Credit card receipt (both customer & merchant copy)
  • Gift card receipt
  • Alternative payment type receipt
  • House account receipt
  • Voided payment receipt

The Guest receipt setup page in Toast Web allows you to configure your printed receipt preferences, and will apply to all receipt printers. You cannot create individual custom configurations for different printers.

Before configuring receipts for the first time, be sure to complete the following tasks:

  • Configure your printers.
  • Configure your Toast POS devices to access the networks on which the printers are located.
  • Configure the receipt printer on your Toast POS devices.

Basic Receipt Configuration

Follow these steps to configure your receipt setup:

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Payments > Checks & receipt setup > Guest receipt setup
  2. Under the Basic setup section, you can:
    1. Enter/edit a header - text that appears at the top of your receipt
    2. Enter/edit a footer - text that appears at the bottom of your receipt
    3. Upload an image - a graphic image or logo that will print on customer-facing receipts
    4. Select Choose Image to browse your computer's drives to find your desired image. To discard an existing logo, select the trash can icon.

Note: The printer is about 200 DPI (dots per inch) resolution, with a 3-inch maximum width. A logo of 400 - 600 pixels should work well.

  3. Save and publish your changes.

For more details on additional receipt settings, see Customize Receipts: Advanced Configuration.

For guests paying with a debit or credit card, the payment line item will be labeled “Card” for physical and digital receipts. If surcharging is enabled, Toast’s Credit Card Surcharging product will automatically print or display the necessary disclosures on checks and receipts for your credit card surcharge. Receipt Font Size

Within your printer setup, you'll be able to set up receipt font sizes directly from your terminal or device when initially connecting your hardware. If you'd like to make any changes after the initial setup, follow the steps below.

Toast's printer setup allows you to customize the font size of customer receipts. This is especially useful if you have a printer that is dual-purpose. For example, say you have a bar printer that is used to print both customer receipts and kitchen tickets, and you'd like the customer receipts to print with a small font size. Toast offers three font sizes:

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large

Follow these steps to set different font sizes for each printer.

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Payments > Checks & receipt setup > Printers and cash drawers.
  2. Choose the name of the printer for which you'd like to adjust the font size.
  3. Scroll down to the Customer Receipt Font Size setting, and select your desired font size.
  4. Save and Publish your changes.
