Print a shelf label from your iPhone to a Zebra Bluetooth printer in Toast Now. Learn which printers work, how to pair one, and how to print.
| Mobile label printing is available on iOS only, in the Toast Now app version 1.85 and later. Android support is in development and does not have a release date yet. |
Mobile label printing in Toast Now lets you print a shelf label for a single item from your iPhone. Open the item, select Print label, and the label prints on your selected Bluetooth Zebra printer. You do not need a desktop or back-office computer.
Use it when you spot a product with a missing, damaged, or out-of-date label. Each printed label includes the item name (which wraps to two lines if needed), the price, and the barcode.
Note: Full customization options are available in Toast Web.
Applies to: Toast Now, Toast Retail
Permissions needed:
What you'll accomplish: Connect a Zebra label printer to Toast Now on your iPhone and print a shelf label for a single item.
Your printer must be Zebra Made for iPhone (MFi) certified or support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to connect to Toast Now.
| Model | Print width | Best for |
| ZQ320 Plus | Three inches | Most retail locations. One printer handles both point-of-sale (POS) receipts and shelf labels. |
| ZQ511 | Three inches | Stockrooms and back-of-house use. It is MIL-STD 810G certified and IP54 rated. |
| ZQ521 | Four inches | Locations that also print wider receipts or invoices from the same device. |
If you already own an older Zebra printer, such as an iMZ, QLn, or legacy ZQ100, ZQ300, or ZQ500 series model, it still works. These models are no longer in production, so choose from the table above if you are buying a new printer.
Stationary Zebra printers, such as the ZD420 or ZT410, work with this feature. Toast does not recommend them for mobile label printing, because you have to walk back to the printer to collect each label.
Expected outcome: You have a compatible Zebra printer ready to pair.
Note: A printer that is not paired in iOS does not appear in the Toast Now printer list.
If you previously declined the Bluetooth permission, navigate to Settings > Toast Now > Bluetooth and enable it.
Expected outcome: Your printer is paired to your iPhone, and Toast Now has Bluetooth permission.
Your settings are saved to your device and apply to future labels, so you do not need to configure them each time.
Note: The gear icon also opens Customize item details. That setting controls which fields display on the Item details screen and does not change what prints on a label.
Note: You cannot design a new label in Toast Now. Create custom labels in Toast Web first, then select them in Toast Now.
Expected outcome: Your label size, quantity, and printer are saved on your device.
A confirmation message shows the serial number of the printer that received the label. If you have more than one printer, use this serial number to confirm the label went to the printer you expected.
Note: You can print one item at a time. To print multiple copies of the same label, increase the Quantity in Print label settings. Batch printing for multiple items at a time is planned for the future.
If your printer is not found or the label does not print, confirm that Bluetooth is enabled, the printer is powered on and in range, and labels are loaded. If the problem continues, contact Toast Customer Care.
Expected outcome: A label prints on your selected printer with the item name, price, and barcode.
