Toast has made it easy for you to set up where your menus display. You can set visibility at the menu group, item, or modifier level. Learn how to easily make your menu(s) and their contents visible and available to be ordered from the different devices and systems across Toast.
Menu visibility settings impact where your menus are shown. Some examples of issues that are solved by checking your menu visibility settings include:
In these cases, you may need to adjust your menu visibility and/or menu availability settings. Menu visibility is covered in this article, and availability is covered in Set Menu Availability.
Note: If you are logged into your POS and are met with a screen that says "LOADING MENUS...", please return to your menus in Toast Web and check the visibility settings. Often this indicates menus have been turned off OR menus are not available due to Time Specific Settings.
If neither of the above removes the "LOADING MENUS..." screen, please resync all data on the device in question.
There are several ways to change your menu visibility: either in the menu manager, the menu builder, or advanced properties. Watch the video below or continue reading for instructions for both methods.
To adjust menu visibility in the menu manager, follow these steps:
For details on how to use the menu visibility tool in the menu builder, check out this Toast Central article: .
Note: When configuring visibility for modifier groups in Advanced Properties, the Toast and Menu & Pay options must be selected or deselected together. If only one of these options is checked or unchecked and you save your changes, the system will automatically align both settings upon refresh. This may appear to be a revert of your changes, but the system is functioning as designed.
To adjust menu visibility in advanced properties, follow these steps:
Note: If you set the visibility for a menu, the groups and items within that menu will follow the same visibility rules as the menu based on the menu hierarchy. You can easily uncheck a group or item if you'd like to exclude it from Online Ordering, for example. Be sure to expand your menu and make sure that your modifiers are set to the correct visibility so that they show up in all of the places where your menu items are visible.
If making changes to settings in Advanced properties, you'll be asked to confirm your edits before proceeding.
Note: In order for modifier groups to be visible to Online Orders: Toast, they must also be visible to In-store orders: POS.
Before this product update, you only had the option to set your menus as visible to all third-party ordering partners or none of them. Now, you have greater control– for example, you may choose to have one menu that is only visible to DoorDash and another that is only visible to Paytronix. This will help you with configurations like:
Partner-specific visibility is currently available for direct online ordering integrations (Grubhub, Uber Eats, and DoorDash) as well as several other integration partners. Toast is working to include all online ordering partners soon, so if you have an integration that is not yet available on the partner-specific visibility setting, let them know they can check back soon for updates. For a partner that isn't yet using the new configurations, you could still select the checkbox (e.g., for Olo, they could check the Olo box or uncheck it), and no change would happen for the third-party menu. Please reach out to the partner to get an update on the migration status.
