Toast Payroll: Forgot an Employee, Hours, or Tips on Payroll

My last payroll was submitted incorrectly. I either forgot an employee or forgot to add hours/tips to their paycheck. What are my options to fix this?

Whether an employee was left off of payroll or your payroll was missing tips, hours, or wages of some sort, all these situations come down to an employee not receiving their accurate pay when they should have. The following options can help you get this employee paid properly.

To pay this employee as fast as possible, Toast Payroll recommends a quick calc. A quick calc is a recording of funds paid outside of Toast Payroll, so once you create and submit a quick calc, you can cut a manual check, pay the employee in cash, or use a cash transfer app such as Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal. If you'd like other options, you can also use an off-cycle payroll or decide to pay this employee on a future payroll, but these are not as efficient as the quick calc option.

Option 1: Quick Calcs

• Pros: Quick calcs are the fastest way to pay your employee and they calculate and record the correct taxes (and deductions, if applicable).
• Cons: Payment to your employee does not take place in Toast Payroll, so your employee will not receive a direct deposit.

Option 2: Off-Cycle Payroll

• Pros: Off-cycle payrolls function like any other payroll run and you're allowed to choose your check date.
• Cons: Takes time to process payroll and an off-cycle may come with a fee (as of July 1st, 2025, the fee is waived for all off-cycle payrolls).

Option 3: Pay Them on a Future Payroll

• Pros: Create a  to automatically apply any missed pay to the next payroll.
• Cons: This is most likely the slowest way to pay your employee.
