Server-Started Ordering With Toast Mobile Order & Pay®: Overview

Toast allows both servers and guests to start orders for tables using Toast Mobile Order & Pay® when both Tabs and Group Ordering are enabled on Toast Web. New guests can still be added to the tab, and request new items regardless of who starts the order.

With Toast Mobile Order & Pay®, customers can have servers start orders for guests sitting at tables. Guests can add items to their server-started orders, and invite others to join their current tab, despite servers starting the orders via the POS screen. Servers simply need to select the proper table in the Table Layout page on the POS and add the item(s) to the order.

Use Server-Started Ordering With Toast Mobile Order & Pay®

Your servers can start an order by following these steps: 

1. First, navigate to Table Service on your device screen.
2. Then, select a table for your guest(s), and enter the total number of guests.
3. Select Done.
4. Next, add the item(s) that are requested by your guests and send their order to the kitchen.
5. Once their order is sent to the kitchen, your guests can use their mobile devices to scan the QR code and add items to the check through Toast Mobile Order & Pay®.
6. When your guests are ready to pay, they will have the option to pay for added items or the entire check.

    • If multiple guests are joining a single tab, group ordering must be enabled in Toast Mobile Order and Pay® settings. Learn more here, .
    • If pre-authorization is enabled, the card must be pre-authorized on the device where the check is started:
      • If started on the POS, the server pre-authorizes the card.
      • If started on the guest's mobile device, the guest pre-authorizes their card through Toast Mobile Order and Pay®.
