Frequently asked questions about the TP300 Printing Hub Adapter for Flex 14, covering setup, features, compatibility, and troubleshooting.

In this Article:

Overview

What is the TP300 Printing Hub Adapter for Flex 14?

The Printing Hub Adapter is a cable accessory designed to enhance compatibility between the Toast Receipt Printing Hub (TP300) and the Flex 14 (TT200) terminal. It enables features such as power delivery, Ethernet over USB-C, direct USB printing, and peripheral USB hub access — all through a single cable connection.

Which devices does the Printing Hub Adapter support?

The Printing Hub Adapter is specifically engineered to connect Flex 14 (TT200) to the Toast Receipt Printing Hub (TP300):

    • Printer: Toast Receipt Printing Hub (TP300)
    • Terminal: Toast Flex 14 (TT200)

Note: It is not compatible with other Toast terminal models.

Why do I need the adapter? Can't I just use the USB-C cable directly?

Without the Printing Hub Adapter, the Flex 14 terminal is not compatible with the TP300 — it can only connect over the network and cannot use USB-C features, power delivery, or accessories plugged into the TP300's USB hub. The adapter is required to unlock the full feature set of the TP300 when paired with a Flex 14.

What features does the adapter enable?

When properly installed, the Printing Hub Adapter enables the following through a single cable connection:

    • Power Delivery: The Printing Hub (TP300) supplies power to the Flex 14 terminal (TT200) through the adapter, eliminating the need for a separate power supply for the terminal.
    • Ethernet over USB-C: The Flex 14 can access the internet via the USB cable and adapter, without a separate Ethernet cable running to the terminal.
    • Direct-Print over USB-C: Enables fast, reliable printing from the Flex 14 to the TP300 over USB, and serves as a backup if network connectivity is lost.
    • USB Hub Networking: Peripherals connected to the TP300's USB-A and USB-C ports (such as scanners, scales, and card readers) are made accessible to the Flex 14 terminal.

Installation and Setup

How do I install the Printing Hub Adapter?

Follow these three steps to connect the adapter:

    1. Printer Connection: Connect the end of the adapter labeled "To TP300" to the USB-C port on the TP300 printer marked Terminal. Tighten the integrated thumbscrews to secure the connection.
    2. Cable Connection: Plug the Toast USB-C cable (included with the Printing Hub) into the receptacle on the adapter.
    3. Terminal Connection: Connect the other end of the USB-C cable to the Flex 14 (TT200) terminal.

For full installation instructions, see the Printing Hub Adapter User Guide.

How do I secure the adapter so it doesn't accidentally disconnect?

The adapter includes integrated thumbscrews on the "To TP300" connector. After plugging the adapter into the USB-C port on the TP300, tighten these thumbscrews by hand to lock the connection in place and prevent accidental disconnects.

What cables and accessories are included with the adapter?

The adapter package includes the Printing Hub Adapter cable itself. The Toast USB-C cable used to connect the adapter to the Flex 14 terminal is provided with the TP300 Printing Hub. An RJ45 Ethernet cable is also included to connect the printer to a local outlet or switch, and a wall mounting kit is included with mounting screws.

Do I still need to set up the TP300 as a printer in the Toast POS after connecting the adapter?

Yes. After completing the hardware setup, navigate to Printer Setup on your Toast POS and follow the prompts to add or replace the printer. This POS setup step is required to route print jobs to the TP300 regardless of your connection method. See the Toast Printing Hub Installation Guide for details.

Features and Usage

How does the adapter deliver power to the Flex 14?

The TP300 acts as the power source for the Flex 14 terminal when the adapter is connected. Power is delivered from the TP300 through the adapter and USB-C cable to the terminal, so the Flex 14 does not need a separate power supply when this setup is used.

How does the Flex 14 access the internet through the adapter?

The adapter supports Ethernet over USB-C technology. When the TP300 is connected to your POS network via Ethernet, the Flex 14 terminal can share that network connection through the adapter — without requiring a separate Ethernet cable run to the terminal.

What happens to printing if my network connection goes down?

The adapter enables Direct-Print over USB-C as a backup connection. If your network becomes unavailable, the Flex 14 can continue to send print jobs directly to the TP300 over the USB connection, ensuring printing is not interrupted during network outages.

Can I use peripherals like scanners, scales, or card readers with my Flex 14 through this adapter?

Yes. When the adapter is connected, any peripherals plugged into the TP300's USB-A or USB-C ports (such as barcode scanners, scales, or card readers) become accessible to the Flex 14 terminal. This means you do not need separate USB connections from each peripheral directly to the terminal.

Can I connect a cash drawer through the TP300 when using the adapter with Flex 14?

Yes. Connect your cash drawer to the dedicated cash drawer port on the TP300 (bottom right of the printer hub). For setup instructions, refer to the Setting Up Cash Drawers article on the Toast Support site.

Compatibility

Does the Printing Hub Adapter work with the Flex 3 terminal?

No. The Printing Hub Adapter is designed exclusively for the Toast Flex 14 (TT200) terminal. The Flex 3 terminal uses the Power Plus Cable included with the TP300 and does not require the adapter.

Can I use the adapter with any other Toast terminals?

No. The adapter is only compatible with the Flex 14 (TT200).

Do I still need the TP300 connected to the network via Ethernet when using the adapter?

For full functionality, yes. Connecting the TP300 to your POS network via Ethernet is recommended so that all POS devices on the network can print to it. However, if your use case requires only the connected Flex 14 to print, the Direct-Print over USB-C feature (enabled by the adapter) allows printing without a network connection.

Can I connect the Flex 3 Guest Display to the TP300 when using this adapter?

No. The Flex 3 Guest Display can only be connected to the Guest/Peripheral port in the base of the Counter Terminal or on the back of the terminal — it cannot be connected through the TP300.

Troubleshooting

My Flex 14 terminal is not receiving power after connecting the adapter. What should I check?

Try the following steps:

    1. Confirm the adapter's "To TP300" end is fully seated in the USB-C port on the TP300 and the thumbscrews are tightened.
    2. Check that the USB-C cable is securely connected to both the adapter receptacle and the Flex 14 terminal.
    3. Verify that the TP300 itself is powered on (Power LED should be green).
    4. Inspect the USB-C cable for any visible damage and try a replacement cable if available.

If the issue persists, contact Toast Support.

The Terminal LED on the TP300 is orange after connecting the adapter. Is something wrong?

An orange Terminal LED indicates the printer detects a connection but is not receiving active data from the terminal — typically because the Flex 14 is not powered on or has not finished booting. The TP300 will continue to function normally. Power on the Flex 14 and allow it to boot fully; the Terminal LED should turn green once communication is established.

My peripherals (scanner, scale, card reader) are not being recognized by the Flex 14 through the adapter. What should I do?

Try the following:

    1. Ensure the adapter is fully connected at both ends (TP300 USB-C port and USB cable connected to the Flex 14 terminal).
    2. Re-seat the peripheral's cable in the TP300's USB port.
    3. Power cycle the TP300 by holding the orange power button to turn it off, then pressing it again to turn it back on.
    4. If the issue persists, see Get Help With the Toast Printing Hub for further diagnostics, or contact Toast Support.
