Step 2: Check The Essentials

1. Are all cables securely plugged in?

Step 3: Printer Not Printing

  • Ensure you are NOT using thermal paper. Thermal paper has a shiny coating and will mark if you scratch it with a fingernail. Impact printers require standard paper.
• Paper Loading
  • Make sure the paper roll is not jammed and is loaded correctly. The paper should feed from the bottom of the roll.

  • Check that the printer ribbon cartridge is firmly seated. Push down gently but firmly on the cartridge. You might hear a click as it settles into place.

Step 4: Printer Printing in Red (or Faintly)

This usually applies to impact printers like the TM-U220 (Gray model) that use a ribbon.

1. Check the Printer Ribbon
   1. Ensure the printer ribbon cartridge is firmly seated. Push down on it – if you hear it click, it may not have been fully in place. Try printing again.
   2. The ribbon might also be old or worn out and may need replacement.
2. Perform a Printer Self-Test
   1. Turn off the printer.
   2. Press and hold the Feed button (usually on the front panel).
   3. While still holding the Feed button, turn the printer on.
   4. Continue holding the Feed button until the printer starts printing a self-test page, then release the Feed button.
   5. Once the self-test begins, press the Feed button once more to stop the continuous printing (if it doesn't stop automatically after a short printout).
   6. Turn the printer off and then on again.
   7. Try printing from your system.
