If you have questions or need help using the Scheduling feature in Toast Web, find answers here.
Toast Scheduling and Sling are two places to manage the same schedule. Toast Scheduling is the scheduling experience built into Toast Web under Team > Scheduling, and employees use it in the MyToast app. Sling is the scheduling platform at getsling.com, and employees use it in the Sling app.
Toast Scheduling runs on Sling, so both share the same schedule data. Shifts, time off, and schedule changes you make in one appear in the other within about 15 minutes.

Toast Scheduling is the recommended scheduling experience for businesses on Toast POS, and Sling remains available alongside it. You don't need to move your schedules or set anything up again. If you use Sling today, you can keep using it, try Toast Scheduling, or use both.

You don't need to use both. Building, editing, and publishing schedules, approving time off, and approving shift changes all work in Toast Scheduling. You only need Sling for features that aren't in Toast Scheduling, such as shift tasks and clocking in from a mobile device. See Which features are only available in Sling? below.
Sling is included with your Toast scheduling plan, so you don't need a separate Sling subscription. Toast's scheduling plans have new names, and each one matches a Sling plan you may already know:
Your plan applies to both Toast Scheduling and Sling. To check your plan, navigate to Team > Scheduling > gear icon > My Locations > Manage my scheduling locations. For the full feature list, see Compare Scheduling Basic and Scheduling Pro.

You can build your schedule in either Toast Web or Sling, and the schedule stays the same in both. We recommend Toast Scheduling in Toast Web because it includes Toast IQ and, with Scheduling Pro, sales forecasting built into the calendar view. Changes made in one system appear in the other within about 15 minutes.

We recommend that employees use the MyToast app. In MyToast, employees can view their schedule, pick up, offer, and swap shifts, and request time off, along with their hours, pay, tips, and team chat in one place.
Employees should keep using the Sling app if your business uses shift tasks or has employees clock in from their phones. Those features are only available in the Sling app.
Employees can use both apps. Shift pickups and swaps sync between the two apps. Messages don't: chat in the MyToast app and messages in the Sling app are separate, and messages can't be sent between them.

In short, Scheduling Basic includes features like schedule building, employee time off, shift offers, open shifts, weather forecast and Toast IQ questions. Scheduling Pro includes all Basic features and adds other features like shift swaps, revenue forecasting, auto-assign shifts, auto-scheduling with Toast IQ, and employee unavailability. See Compare Scheduling Basic and Scheduling Pro for full details.
A few features are available in Sling and the Sling app but not in Toast Scheduling or the MyToast app:
To open Sling from Toast Web, navigate to Team > Scheduling, select the three dots in the upper-right corner, and select Sling. Log in with your Toast Web email address and password.
Time off requests and unavailability sync between Toast Scheduling, the MyToast app, and Sling, but they don't sync to Toast Payroll. If you track paid time off balances or accruals for payroll, use Time Away From Work in Toast Payroll.
Note: Time off requests that employees submit in the MyToast app go to Scheduling. They don't create a Time Away From Work request in Toast Payroll.

The banner appears because your Toast location can use Toast Scheduling in Toast Web. In Sling, the banner at the top of the schedule links to Toast Scheduling. Select the link to switch to Toast Scheduling, or keep working in Sling. Your schedule is the same in both places.

Toast Scheduling is available only for locations that use Toast POS. Locations that don't use Toast POS keep using Sling. In Toast Scheduling, you'll see only the schedules and employees for your Toast POS locations.
You don't need a separate Sling account. When you set up Scheduling in Toast Web, your Sling account is created or connected as part of setup, and you log in to Sling with your Toast Web email address and password. See Get Started With Scheduling in Toast Web.
The message "We are still working on building your scheduling experience" appears while your data syncs after you first connect Scheduling. It usually takes 15 minutes for everything to sync. If the message is still there after 15 minutes, contact Toast Customer Care.
You manage your Sling connection from Scheduling in Toast Web. Navigate to Team > Scheduling, select the three dots in the upper-right corner, and select Connect locations to Sling.
Scheduling Basic includes schedule building, employee time off, shift offers, open shifts, weather forecasts, and Toast IQ questions. Scheduling Pro includes all Basic features and adds shift swaps, employee unavailability, revenue forecasting, auto-assign for open shifts, and auto-scheduling with Toast IQ. See Compare Scheduling Basic and Scheduling Pro.
A new employee can take up to 15 minutes to appear in Scheduling after you add them in Toast Web or Toast Payroll. Wait 15 minutes and refresh the page.
A newly assigned job takes up to 15 minutes to reach Scheduling, because Toast Web and Sling sync about every 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, you can schedule the employee for that job. The refresh button doesn't speed up the sync.
Every Scheduling customer also has automatic access to a Sling back-end. Since Scheduling is powered by Sling, you can also use the Sling product to manage employee schedules. The two systems will mirror each other. There are a couple additional features in Sling that are not present in Scheduling, but these will become available in Scheduling in future updates. Toast does not currently have plans to remove the Sling back-end or Sling integration.
You can't print a schedule directly from Scheduling in Toast Web. You can take a screenshot or use your browser's print option. However, you can open Sling from Team > Scheduling > three dots > Sling and follow the Print a Schedule section of Sling by Toast: Create a Schedule.
Copying shifts creates a single copy of each shift from a previous day or week, so it's best for one-time use. Repeating shifts recur week after week and are commonly used for employees who work the same schedule or for recurring open shifts.
The refresh button shows the latest changes when two users edit a schedule at the same time, because Scheduling in Toast Web doesn't update in real time. In Sling, changes from other users appear instantly. The refresh button doesn't change how long Toast Web and Sling take to sync.
Those with the Employee system role see their schedule in the MyToast app, not in Toast Web. They can also view published shifts, reopen and offer shifts, swap shifts, request time off, and set their unavailability. Shift swaps and unavailability require Scheduling Pro. See Manage Scheduling in the MyToast App (for Employees).
The Manager to be notified field controls which Manager or Admin receives email notifications for an individual's time off requests, unavailability, shift offers, shift swaps, and schedule changes. This field is optional and is seen on an individual's profile when looking at the Scheduling permissions section. If it's blank for an employee, all Managers are notified. If it's blank for a Manager, all Admins are notified.
Toast IQ can answer questions about your schedule, such as "Who is working Friday?", and can create or edit shifts from plain-language prompts, such as "Create an open shift for next Saturday." With Scheduling Pro, Toast IQ can also help create your entire schedule.
Time off is a one-time request not to be scheduled on a day or set of days. Unavailability is a recurring request not to be scheduled on a day of the week, every week. Unavailability is available only with Scheduling Pro.
Revenue and labor forecasting is in the Forecasting tab in the lower-left corner of the Full schedule view. It's available with Scheduling Pro to Admins and Managers, when you view the schedule by week for a single location. Set the toggle to Week, and if you have multiple locations, select Filters and choose a single location under Locations.
The status badge shows where your scheduled labor falls against your labor range, which is based on your projected sales and your labor target. This is only available to Scheduling Pro customers who are in the Week view.
Your labor target comes from Toast Benchmarking data for restaurants similar to yours, grouped by concept type, location, and size. If benchmarking data isn't available for your restaurant, Scheduling uses a 23% labor target.

You can adjust projected sales from the Sales projection page. Select Projected sales in the Forecasting tab, or navigate to Reports > Projections > Sales projection, then select Adjust projection on any day. See Toast Benchmarking: Advanced Sales Projections.

You can view employee availability on the Team availability tab at the top of the Scheduling page. Use the date range selector, Section by, Sort by, and Filters to find an employee or day. To add unavailability for an employee, select Add unavailable hours.
You can auto-assign open, unpublished shifts with the Auto-Assign button on the right side of the header, which appears when open unpublished shifts exist. Auto-assign is available with Scheduling Pro for single-location companies and includes hourly employees only.
